Denver — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, a familiar tune and in Downtown Denver a sure sign that Christmas is near is a 34-year-old tradition, which on December 6, distinguished the dazzle of the holiday season.
The Denver 9News Parade of Lights is a treasured family fun filled Downtown Denver event and is one of Colorado’s biggest community celebrations to mark the Christmas Season in the city. The legacy of the Parade of Lights is made possible with support of leading area businesses, and the presenting sponsor the Downtown Denver Partnership.
As families travel from neighborhoods throughout Colorado, the best view may in fact be in your living room with 9News live telecast capturing all the excitement and brilliance. Since 1975 the Parade line-up has had Community Participants, complete with the highlight of noted Grand Marshals. In a salute to Colorado’s Olympians and Paralympians, the Toy Box Friends Float with Santa Claus motorized float sponsored by Southwest Airlines launched the 2008 Grand Marshals from Civic Center delighting over 375,000 in attendance.
Another sign of the Holiday Season is the annual Holiday Party in Historic Five Points, hosted by the Five Points Historic Association a City and County of Denver, Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) representing Denver’s first neighborhood established over 150 years ago. The Five Points neighborhood a destination rich with culture and the vibrancy of an urban city will host on December 16 a community celebration. The Five Points community less than 1 mile from the 16th Street Mall, is celebrating the season with holiday lighting along the Welton Street Commercial Cultural District, sponsored by the Denver Black Arts Festival. A Holiday Season in Historic Five Points will celebrate community spirit in bringing neighbors and friends together to toast the season.
