2009 Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp Quarter
The historical Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown, San Diego, will hold their annual Mardi Gras celebration, hosted by “Southern Comfort” on Fat Tuesday, February 24, 2009, from 6 pm – 12 am. This is the largest Mardi Gras celebration in San Diego.
There will be two Masquerade parades: 7:30 pm & 10 pm, and each will last one hour. The parade route will run along 5th avenue and “E” St. to 5th and “K” St. There will be Cajun, Creole and other foods to sample, as well as craft and bead booths. Live entertainment and dancing will also be enjoyed in traditional and other styles. The festivities will take place at 5th and Market Streets. The prices are $15-$20 for ages 21 and up only, with ID required. An upgrade to $40 will get you VIP status and entry into 10 hot spots at the event. $30 tickets will allow for dinner at several eateries. No still cameras or video cameras are allowed (visit website for additional restrictions).
Parking will be available in the various surrounding parking lots and will remain open during the event. Handicapped parking is available in 2 locations: 3rd Ave between Market & Island St. and 6th Ave. between J St. & L St.

San Diego Brazilian Mardi Gras Ball
The 17th annual San Diego Brazilian Mardi Gras Ball will be on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 8 pm. The event will feature a spectacular Samba show, Carnaval parades, and the traditional Mardi Gras beads. It will be held at 345 “B” Street (between 4th & “B” streets) in the “Showcase Theatre”. Tickets: $25 in advance/$30 at door. Skybox tickets: $50 in advance/$55 at door. Ages 21 and up only. Reserved mezzanine VIP seating is $75.
Carnevale in Little Italy, Downtown San Diego
The 6th Annual Little Italy Carnivale is a family-friendly Mardi Gras celebration in the Little Italy neighborhood of downtown, San Diego. Come bring the kids and enjoy an evening of entertainment including stilt walkers, jugglers, mimes, a costume competition, and prizes donated by the local restaurants and shops. Experience all the fun and excitement of Mardi Gras with the whole family. The event will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 5 pm – 10 pm on India Street. This is a FREE event and all ages are welcome.
Absolut Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party 2009
Mardi Gras celebrations will take place in the heart of Hillcrest from 6 pm to 11 pm on Fat Tuesday, February 24, 2009. There will be a laser light show in the dance tent, mardi gras beads, acrobatic street performers, 2 entertainment stages including female impersonators, and tons of food and drink. This is a 21+ only event. Ticket prices start at $15, but VIP tickets can also be purchased for $50 in advance ($75 at the door). The event will be held at the corner of University and Fourth Avenue in Hillcrest.
