The Oscars were very entertaining tonight. Winners included Penelope Cruz, Wall-E, and Milk. Slumdog Millionaire won many awards tonight including Best Picture, Directing, Cinematography, Best Original Song, Original Score, Sound Mixing, and Film Editing. Best Actress went to Kate Winslet for The Reader, she has had one heck of a year! Sean Penn won the coveted Best Actor in a Leading Role for Milk. Sean Penn was up against serious competition with the likes of Mickey Rourke, who I really wanted to win this award. Jerry Lewis was recognized with a Humanitarian Award from the Academy. Many of those who died through 2008 were remembered, Bernie Mac, Charlton Heston, Paul Newman, and a slew of others from the entertainment industry There was also a performance during the memorial, from Queen Latifah. It’s nice to see her getting her voice! She sounded and looked great!
The show was set up really great this year. Hugh Jackman is an excellent host, and even sang with Beyonce Knowles in a show-stopping performance. There were so many stand-out A-list celebrities who presented like the beautiful Jennifer Aniston, Hallie Berry, Shirley McClain, Angelica Huston, Goldie Hawn, Natalie Portman, Will Smith, Ben Stiller, Nicole Kidman, and many others.
The best dressed list for me includes Angelica Huston, who looked absolutely fabulous in purple, Jennifer Aniston who was dresses to perfection from hair to the gold dress, Hailie Berry had an amazing black and gold dress on, that was amazing, Hugh Jackman, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Will Smith, and Natalie Portman all looked at their very best. Jessica Biels was a presenter, but I did not understand the weird flap on the front of her too light frock.
There was a somber light put on the night when Heath Ledger won for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. His father, mother, and sister accepted his award on behalf of Matilda. My vote was for for him! The Ledger family looked lovely and royal. The mentioned that they were choosing to be happy for Heath for what he had accomplished with his work. The Dark Knight brought home another Oscar for Sound Editing, along with Ledger’s Oscar for Best Male in a Supporting Role.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons won Oscars for Art Director, Visual Effects, and Makeup. The Dutchess and Michael O’Connor won for Best Costume Design.
