Heading to Tampa Bay for Superbowl XLIII this year? You’re not alone! Thousands will flock to Tampa Bay this year to watch the Superbowl. Here is your guide to the best budget to luxury hotels and what to do if you can’t find a room…
First and foremost, try to book as early as possible. Always the best advice, but not always possible. As soon as the teams playing are announced, you’ll find room prices start to go through the roof! Booking now is a great option. But, if you’re like many of us you will want to wait and find out who the teams are–then decide to go and book your tickets. Orbitz is a great way to go. They will guarantee that if your flight or hotel rates drop before your trip, they will refund you the difference! You can feel safe in booking and knowing that you will only pay the best possible fare.
But if you’re like me, you probably love to search 400 different websites, hotel sites, airfare sites and the works just to make sure that you are finding the best deal. I’ll make it easy by giving you the best hotels to start searching for.
Best Budget Find…
The best budget find with the highest ratings on both Travelocity and Citysearch is the La Quinta Inn at Tampa near Busch Gardens. The hotel is only 11 miles away from the airport, and 15 minutes away from the stadium. Staying here is a great way to get away from the crowds of the stadium, and still be able to relax and enjoy the best of Tampa. Enjoy the game one night, and be close to everything else the rest of the time you stay. The Inn is located close to Busch Gardens, the University of South Florida, Museum of Science and Industry, Adventure Island, and downtown Tampa.
The rooms are modestly decorated in traditional hotel decor. Each room includes an ironing board and iron, hairdryer, coffeemaker, satellite TV, pay-per-view movies, and Nintendo. Hotel ammenities include free local papers each morning, 24 hour desk service, free parking, high speed internet, and free continental breakfast. There is no fitness center on site, however the Inn does have a pool. The Inn is also located close by to budget eateries like McDonalds and Arby’s and to more moderately priced dining facilities like Olive Garden and Red Lobster. Several other eateries are also within close proximity to the Inn.
Prices are only $90 per night for a standard king size bed, or two queen beds room. This hotel is a great budget find for those wanting to be in close proximity to everything Tampa has to offer.
Moderate Priced Pick…
For a moderate priced stay, consider staying at the Holiday Inn Express Stadium. The hotel is considered to be one of the closest hotels to the Stadium. The hotel is also close to Busch Gardens, the Tampa Convention Center, and the Aquarium. The rooms are highly recommended on sites like Travelocity.
All rooms are decorated in rich, warm inviting colors perfect for relaxing after the game. All rooms have cable and satellite TV, coffeemakers, microwaves, high speed internet, and all other standard room ammenitites.
The hotel offers a full breakfast buffet each morning free with your room charge. A health and fitness center, gift and snack shop, swimming pool and whirlpool are also available on-site. Free parking is also available. The hotel is just over 1/2 mile away from the stadium. While many people walk, you can also take one of the hotels shuttles over to the game. Rooms start at $160 a night for a standard king or two queen bed rooms. Some suites are also available.
This hotel is sure to sell out quick, so consider booking here now.
Of course, if you are willing to pay good money to get away from the noise of partygoers after the Superbowl, consider staying at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Resort. This resort is only five minutes away from the stadium, but is located beachfront on a stunning 35 acre wildlife preserve. Truly feel like you are getting away from the noise of the festivities the night before by relaxing while walking along the Nature Trail–part of the wildlife preserve. Sunset cruises are also available.
The rooms are elegantly decorated in modern, comfortable decor with many rooms boasting beachfront views. All rooms include cable TV, coffeemaker, daily newspapers, iron and hairdryer, and full bath ammenities. High speed internet is also available.
The resort offers laundry and dry cleaning services, health club, whirpool and swimming pool, tennis courts, and nearby golf courses. Entrances offer hand painted ceilings and marble decor in a beach like setting.
Prices start at $244 a night for a king bed, or two queen sized beds. A limited number of suites are available for staying in.
Where to Stay When You Can’t Find a Room…
You’ve procrastinated and now you can’t find a room. Or perhaps you finally got your hands on those hard to find tickets. Now where can you stay now that all the rooms are filled? Consider renting a house at Beach House Florida. Many of these homes are private residences or are managed by management companies and are available for rent during the Superbowl. The business is also a Better Business Bureau accredited business. Some rental homes and condos sleep as few as 8 people at a rate of only $1200 per week during the Superbowl! Others like the Villa Del Lago Mansion rent for as much as $14000 a week. (I had to look and dream!) There are plenty of rooms in between for rent as well. The site offers condos, homes, and boats for sleeping accomodations.
And, if you still can’t find a place, consider doing a house swap. Many people in the Tampa area would love to get away and avoid the crowds of the Superbowl. Consider some of the beautiful homes listed on House Swap. They offer over 24,000 listings, and you might be able to find a family willing to swap to get away for a ski vacation the same time you are wanting to watch football live and in person. House swapping has become a very popular alternative for vacationing now that the economy has soured.
Tampa also offers one of the highest rated hostels and the only hostel you’ll find in Tampa. Gram’s Place Hostel is a uniquely themed hostel offering themed train rooms, ‘I Love Lucy’ inspired rooms, and more. The resort offers linens and towels, kitchens, an outdoor commons area with fireplace, pool, and sitting area, and even family accomodations. Prices range from $25-60 a night. They won’t guarantee that you’ll find a room during the Superbowl, but it’s definetely an option if you can’t find a better place to stay.
