5 Worst Christmas Gifts for Pre-Teen Girls – With the holiday season quickly approaching, I began my search for presents and gifts for my family. This year, I needed to try something different, as last year was not a successful gift giving season. I recall the failed attempts, and decided that this year, I would help out would be gift givers. If your list includes gifts for pre-teen girls, then I urge you to continue reading. Avoid the mistakes that I made. By using this guide, you can rest assured that you will not pick out the 5 Worst Christmas Gifts for Pre-teen girls.
The first gift that I want to discuss is the gift of a phone. It can either be a cell phone, or a regular land-line phone. These gifts are definitely at the top of the list of the worst gifts to give a girl. While I am sure there are many readers out there that are thinking “How can giving a cell phone to a girl be a bad gift”. Please allow me to explain. First, the phone you pick out will be the wrong color, or style. Inevitably the cute “Hello Kitty” phone that you selected will be too childish for them. Or, the fancy shimmering pink color will clash with their outfit, and thus they will be reluctant to take it. Now, assuming that your gift is actually used, you can expect that your gift will turn into a nightmare. All hours of the night, you will hear crazy ring tones going off. And, after finally get used to hearing the latest hip hop ring tone, you received the heart stopping bill. For simply calculation’s sake, there are only 44640 minutes per month. But, somehow, the cell phone bill you receive will be near that amount. Thus, I recommend AGAINST giving a phone as a present.
The second item on my “5 Worst Christmas Gifts for a Pre-Teen Girl” is a pet. Any pet, be it a dog, a cat, a turtle, or even a horse does not make a good gift. Recall as a child, your dream of getting a pet. You promised the world, and begged and pleaded. Then your dream came true. Or, your dream was over. After having to take care of the animal, you began to lose interest. Now instead of eagerly waking up each day to let the dog out, and watch them eat their food, you are dreading the morning whimpers. As a youth, you tried to fake sleeping, in hopes that your parents would take care of the animal (which incidentally usually happens). As time goes on, you maintain that special connection with your pet, but other interests are more important. Maybe it is better to avoid the whole pet issue, by following my guide, and not purchasing a pet as a gift.
Number three on my list of worst gifts is clothes. Sure everyone can use them, but pre-teen girls are particularly concerned with their appearance. What you think may be the latest style in shirts or pants is not what they want. Out of obligation, they will wear the clothes, but deep down, they would rather not. Instead of buying the clothes, and wrapping them up, offer to take them shopping. Not only will they get to pick out what they like, but you can spend some quality time with them as well. Sure, going to the mall shopping for girls clothes may not sound like fun, but the goal here is to make sure you aren’t giving one of the top 5 worst Christmas gifts.
My number four item is more generic, and can apply to a variety of stores or location. The fourth item on my list is GIFT CARDS. In today’s economic uncertainty, there is a good chance that the gift card you buy today may be useless tomorrow. Businesses are downsizing, stores are closing, and others are not honoring gift cards. While there may be some stores that appear to be a good buy for a gift card, remember what a gift card is really saying to that special someone: “Sorry didn’t know what to buy you – go buy it yourself”. Not much though put into that gift is there? Most pre-teen girls will eagerly accept the gift cards. But, subconsciously, we are training them to use plastic cards for purchases. Is this a habit that we really want to help them develop? I think not.
And finally, the last item on my “top 5 Worst Christmas Gifts for a Pre-Teen Girl” would be a bag of dollar store items. Most girls can spot cheap gifts a mile away. Buying lots of cheap gifts only antagonizes them. They scowl at you as they open the bag of hair clips. And, they glare at you, as they realize the colors of the hair clips are fluorescent aquamarine, or eye-blinding yellow. These items might have worked when they were not so conscious of their social appearance, but not now. These gifts will simply point out that you were looking for quantity, not quality. Not to mention the fact that most of these items will be broken, lost, or “misplaced” before the day is even over.
Giving gifts can be easy, but care needs to be taken to select the right gifts. I’ve mention some of the catastrophes that I encountered, in hopes that some poor soul out there can make a better decision than I did. Give a gift that they will enjoy, give a gift that shows you care. Take some time, put some thought into the gift, and don’t wait until the last minute. Otherwise, you might be writing your top 5 worst Christmas gifts next year.
