A 57-year-old man was arrested for trying to hire a killer. He was charged with two counts of soliciting to commit murder and two counts of attempted capital murder for hire, one count of attempted murder was for his ex-wife. He was determined to hire a killer and have her and a supposed male killed. They have been divorced for several years, so the divorce wasn’t something that just happened. He is being held without bond.
Where did this solicitation for murder occur? The murder for hire took place in Augusta County, Stuarts Draft, Virginia. Stuarts Draft, Virginia is a small little town mostly known for its hidden factories. Hershey, McKee (Little Debbie) and Target all reside in the same area. Crime is a new concept brought in by expansion and construction in the area over the past twenty years. Augusta County, which Stuarts Draft is part of, has about 20,000 residents.
Many people are shocked to hear about crime in the area. It’s even an odder event for a murder to take place much less to hire someone to murder someone else. Now everyone is asking “How can you hire a murderer in Augusta County, especially Stuarts Draft?”.
Evidently, it isn’t as easy to hire a “hit man” as one may think in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. The person that was originally asked if he or she knew anyone that would kill somebody was asked several times. The first time it was blown off as not being serious. The second or third time kind of made him or her wonder. The next time the question came up the police were contacted.
The police questioned the informant extensively to find out if this was anything they needed to look into. Evidently it was. Augusta County sheriff’s office in conjunction with Staunton and Waynesboro police departments initiated a sting operation.
They gave the informant a phone number to give to the suspect if he was seriously looking for someone to murder his wife. The phone number was an undercover police officer.
The police officer gave the suspect multiple chances to back out after he told the undercover police officer he wanted to hire him for murder. He also told him it wasn’t one murder but two. They set up a time and place to meet for the suspect to give him money for the murders. He gave the undercover officer money with addresses and license plates of the two people he wanted murdered. He was then apprehended.
He has been put in jail with out bond. He will probably not be able to get out for a very long time because his wife works in the court system and his daughter is a paralegal at the prosecutions office. In such a small town this man had to be crazy to think he would be able to kill someone by hiring someone else to do it. He actually told the “hit man” he was going to do it himself but he would have been the main suspect. This attempted murder was PREMEDITATED.
