Staying at home or working, it never seams like there is enough time to entertain guests with a proper gourmet meal, follow these tips to surprise the guests at your next event. Easy meats, fresh foods and simple hors d’oeuvres, are great for entertaining and it always seems like you spent hours in the kitchen. Take the time out of the kitchen and put it into the other things you have to do, throw on a dress and be confident in the meals you serve.
The key to a great main course is the meat. Make sure you marinade your meats for a unique flavor each time. Use lean beef and marinade it in teriyaki or spicy steak sauce, then slice it and plate it with fresh vegetable and an oriental or caesar salad. Use chicken, garlic, pepper and olive oil in a bowl over night, then grill to make any pasta dish exceptional. Wine and roast beef are always a great match in the crock pot, and make an ordinary pot roast a culinary delight. Get creative with marinades and introduce new flavors to your guests.
Take all of the work out of a side dish and make it fresh. Lay your meat on fresh vegetable or fruits, when plating it, and you will have great colors to offer. Steamed vegetable are the best, but if you don’t have a steamer, boil or grill them, leaving them crisp. Use fruit that is in season for the best quality and spinach for salads instead of lettuce. Pick out a few unusual fruits or veggies like mangos and peaches with pork chops, or artichokes with pasta and chicken, the combination will thrill guests.
Hors d’oeuvres are very simple to make. Use raw vegetable, fruit and cheeses from different countries. Have a veggie plate a fruit and berry plate and a bread and cheese plate with dip, these work for just about every event. Use high quality in season fruits and veggies. Have a hot hors d’oeuvre plate with meat and cheese croissant sandwiches, grill in a toaster oven and cut into small pieces. There are several hot sandwiches that are easy to make, or if you prefer a hot cheesy crab dip, it’s always a hit at parties. Some of my favorite parties have plates of hors d’oeuvres from different countries, which is always shows me that the host is serious about food.
A gourmet meal should only take an hour or two to prepare, and with these tips will seem like it took days. Keep your meat soaking over night and then cook it fast, so it’s tender, add meat to fresh vegetables, fruit and award winning hors d’oeuvres for a perfect meal. If you keep your meals all one theme, sometimes the ingredients will overlap, which will make the shopping list less time consuming as well.
