I love homemade gravy, and sometimes it just is not possible to make it, due to time. At times, I also tend to run out of gravy and need a quick gravy to grab. I spotted Sauer’s Microwaveable Turkey Gravy Mix in a local grocery store, where I was visiting. It was my only option and since this small store had no jar prepared gravy, I decided to take a chance on this product. Here is what I discovered!
Don’t you just love those fun family holiday food emergencies where you suddenly need an item at that last second? You either run out or did not make enough or have more guests than you planned on. In any event, I ended up with a package or envelope of Sauer’s Microwaveable Turkey Gravy Mix and I was darned glad to have it. Whew. This turkey gravy mix is very affordable. It is well under one dollar for one envelope of gravy mix. One pack makes four servings. I am sure that I have tried other Sauer’s products in the past. The name seemed very familiar to me. After I visited this company’s web site, I discovered that the C. F. Sauer company has a whole family of different brands! I did recognize a few of them, one being Bama. The other was Gold Medal. Yep, I have used many of both of those brand name products in the past with good results.
Sauer’s Microwaveable Turkey Gravy Mix saved me in an food emergency, I will admit. So, how good is this product? Well, it will due in a tight spot. There are three different ways to prepare this gravy. You can prepare this gravy in a sauce pan. You empty the contents into a small sauce pan, add one cup of water, to be stirred in gradually. Cook over medium heat, stirring , until the gravy comes to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for two minutes. You can also microwave this gravy. Yes, being in hurry, I chose this method. You empty the gravy mix into a small glass bowl, gradually stir in one cup of water. Microwave on high, three to four minutes, stirring twice. There, the directions ended, for the microwaveable preparation. Maybe, just maybe, being in a bit of a hurry, I added the water too quickly. Anyway, the turkey gravy turned out a bit too thin. It tasted great, worked well with what I needed it for but, the gravy never thickened to a true gravy like thick consistency for me. Anyway, it did save the day and it tasted delicious.
Another way that you can prepare Sauer’s Microwaveable Turkey Gravy Mix is by using pan drippings. You remove any excess fat from the pan drippings. Stir in one cup of water and gravy mix into the pan drippings. Heat to boiling point, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for two minutes. I, of course, had no pan drippings available so, this method of preparation was not an option for me. Anyway, overall, I loved the taste of this gravy. It was flavorful and all said that it was very good. At least, it wet down everything, being a bit thin. That was needed. I rate Sauer’s Microwaveable Turkey Gravy Mix four stars out of five. It’s flavor gets it high marks, in my opinion. This review and trying this product was a learning experience for me.
