In today’s tough economy more and more consumers are saving money by staying at home. I have found that while they may be looking to save, they are still spending money on things like flat panel TV’s. They feel that in the long run it just may be cheaper then taking the family to the theater every week. This type of shopper has been flocking to the Dynex and Vizio brands which offer big screens at a reasonable cost. The Dynex DX-PDP42-09 is a perfect example with its wide 42″ screen for considerably less than $1000. I have taken the opportunity to spend some time with one of these so I can let you know just how well these perform outside of that bright electronics store setting.
In my opinion Dynex models usually lack something in the looks department however that isn’t the case with the DX-PDP42-09. The styling on this 42 inch is average and in my opinion fits right in with some of the more expensive models. The bezel is in the typical glossy black, and is only interrupted by the silver Dynex logo on the bottom frame. The speakers are well hidden and the set just has an overall clean appearance. The glossy black stand is light weight but seems to be sturdy and it also swivels which is an added benefit over the smaller size screens Dynex offers.
The picture displayed on this television is an HD 720p which is produced clear and crisp. I did notice some motion blur when I was watching a basketball game however it wasn’t too extreme. If you want to primarily play video games on this set this may be more of an issue. I know that in the past some of the Dynex sets have had an issue connecting with Playstation 3 video game systems however I had no trouble connecting my unit and playing Blueray movies. The picture is displayed well in my brightly lit room and the viewing angle is more than adequate.
The connectivity is standard and actually almost impressive considering the cost of this big screen. It has 2 HDMI ports as well as several composite and a PC input. As always I tested the PC input and felt that it performed well, again motion blurring was a little bit of an issue however I was very close to the screen and this could have exacerbated the problem.
Currently sale priced for less than $600 this 42″ HD LCD is virtually certainly a set worth considering. In the store you may notice some differences in display quality between this set and some of the more expensive models however I doubt that once you have the DX-PDP42-09 in your home you’ll be less than satisfied.
