A new generation arises,
Like the early morning sun awakening
Too suddenly,
Pausing momentarily;
Its soft rays, hovering over the vast horizon;
A sea of expectant faces,
Waves of joyous, elated people,
Young and old, hand in hand.
Footsteps and more footsteps,
Walking, running;
All following in the footsteps,
Footprints of another time and place;
A different era dawns,
Recollecting the horrendous tragedies of the past era,
Remembering those already lost to eternity,
Recalling one brief memory
Inscribed upon the face of history,
“I have a dream.”
Truth merges with imminent reality;
The economy is at stake,
Global economic woes abound;
A tentative solution,
No idle hands,
A life of continual service,
More dedication;
Obama’s inauguration finalized;
A new presidency confirmed.
A first for the world!
A white orchid, with a mauve center,
Bursts into blossom;
Symbolic of new birth;
A black bird,
Tenuously perched on a snow bank,
Immediately takes flight;
Employment concerns,
A fragile agenda
On the same table of time;
Opportunity always knocking;
Major political transition acknowledged,
Welcomed across the nation,
The entire world watching and waiting,
Anticipating the inevitable changes;
An historical event of tremendous magnitude,
Major global concerns,
World peace;
Waves of desperate people
Rising above the sea of despair;
Crowds of human expectation,
Exuberance beyond measure;
A celebration of hope;
Love,
The common dream for all;
From a Canadian perspective,
A mere poet’s words;
Powerful words,
Embraced in faith;
A triple amen,
“So be it, so be it, so be it.”
Children in the White House;
A mass appeal to people everywhere;
A worldwide embrace of unity,
Another challenge;
A brand new chapter in time,
Just begun;
Re-emancipation proclamation,
Jubilation re-visited,
Re-made,
A better way;
Congratulations, America,
You did it!
Remake America?
Or continue to build America,
Based upon a broader scope of human understanding;
