Well, I promised myself I would not sit in front of the television this season because surely we have had enough of this show by now. I was so tired of it that I did not even watch the preliminaries. Then one night, while walking past the living room I heard his voice. Yes, I heard Danny sing and I was, once again, hooked. With all my good intentions gone I figured I might just as well see what was going on and contribute my opinion to some of the boards I lived on last year. Well, his name is all over and I seem not to be the only one to think that he is head and shoulders above any of the other contestants.
I watched the Hollywood week and wanted to scream when I was confronted with the usual bevy of drama kings and queens this season. When that lovely little boy with his dream (I prefer to not even mention his name) started crying during group day and got his group together for the prayer of all prayers, that God must please help them all to retain their chance of reaching this dream, all I could think about was that God must surely have more pressing matters on his mind than our young hero’s dream. You know something like the plight of those in Iraq for instance came to mind as a priority. Alas he is included in the top 36 – it seems that somehow his urgent need was attended to.
Then there was Miss Tatiana. Luckily we can now say that she is a “was” unless she miraculously gets picked as one of the wild cards. I have never gotten so annoyed with someone as with that girl. Her wild pleas to not go home was just unbearable and for some sick reason they worked. Yes, the girl can sing but for heaven’s sake, she makes me feel physically ill and I suppose that the Idol should not have that type of effect on his or her fans.
We are blessed though with a few wonderfully talented gals and guys, although my feeling is that the guys are eclipsing the gals this year. Alexis is the only girl I can honestly say I really remember since the rest seems to have faded in my memory as forgettable singers. Alexis should go far though and we shall see how much of a threat she will pose to Danny.
I am still waiting to see how Scott does as he is another inspiring story and I am a sucker for an inspiring story. We absolutely need another phenomenon like Stevie Wonder. Just the fact that this man is so good when he is playing the keyboard gives me hope that there will be those that will help him advance in this competition.
Now for Danny – as I said the only reason I am once again voting and calling for about 30 minutes after each show. He has the voice of an angel and he inspires me to live life as a hero. Yes, some might think that he has played the sympathy card too much but it is a fact that the death of a spouse happens to be pretty traumatic and most people would find it difficult to overcome especially if that spouse is loved. Danny has stage presence and he has great technique. He sounds so polished when compared to others. Danny is unique and his style is not one that everyone else is doing right now.
Like Simon said it is important that the Idol this year is relevant and I think that Danny is relevant. He is an inspiration in a time when Americans are facing a myriad of difficult issues and he helps us forget that all is dark around us economically. I really wish there were more distractions that could take our minds off what is happening right now. Hopefully the winner of Idol could bring a smile to weary faces when they turn the dial on the radio. Danny is the perfect one to do so.
