The story started when I went on vacation. I went to northern Florida to visit my relatives. I drove up into the yard. I couldn’t believe the living conditions. I was greeted by I don’t know how many dogs. I was afraid to get out of the car. No one was expecting me. Finally someone walked out the door of a fallen down single wide trailer. They didn’t know who I was at first. Then someone else came out of a little pop up camper. This was late at night. They were surprised to see me.
They invited me in the house. I couldn’t believe the condition of the place. I almost fell through the floor. You couldn’t even walk in there. It looked like the inside of a dumpster. Naturally they offered me a place to sit. I thought to myself! Hell no! They pushed off God No’s what off of the couch. Cat’s running around all over.
Then my uncle walked in. We talked for a few minutes. Then he said I got a surprise for ya. This is when I first saw my daughter.
I was in shock! When he brought her to me. They had a dirty tee shirt pen to her like a diaper. I went to hold her she was soak and wet. At this point I wasn’t going to stay there.
So I decided to get a hotel room. This is when the battle started. I tried to get my uncle and his wife to come to my room. I thought to myself! At least the baby can get a bath. At first they were reluctant. Finally they agreed. The first thing I did was buy her diapers. It was to late to buy her any close.
The next day I took them shopping. That made me feel so good. So I stayed a few day’s. By now I’m getting attached. The time came when I had to go back home. So I asked my uncle if I could take the baby with me. Naturally they said no.
You can Imagen what went through my mind on the way home. I couldn’t get Kimberly out of my mind. I talked about her to everybody. Besides that I was worried about her.
A few weeks later I get a phone call. It’s my uncle! Children and families were called. Thank God! My uncle knew who called. He was afraid children and families would take the baby.
He asked me if I could come get the baby. I was shocked, excited and overwhelmed.
Then reality hit me. What happens when she has to go to the doctors. So I went to my attorney. He said I could get temporary custody. So I said, How soon can you drawl up the papers. He says in about a week.
That wasn’t good enough! So I set off to go get Kimberly. I couldn’t get there quick enough!
I bring her home. I called everybody! Showed her off I was so proud of her.
A week went bye. My attorney called. The papers was ready. I picked up the papers. I was going to send them the papers. Then I thought I better not! They might lose the papers or decide not to sign them. So I drove up there again. They where reluctant to sign them. Finally they signed.
I had no problem with day care. Since at the time I owned one.
So I raised her. Just like any other single parent would. I loved her every minute of the day. She was everything to me.
Kimberly’s biological parent never once called to see how she was. A year went bye. So a decided to adopt her. I had to file a portion for adoption. I wasn’t going to give her up. After spending and loving her for a year.
Kimberly’s biological parents were notified. Out of no where they show up with the cops. The cops said there was nothing they could do. Because I only had temporary custody. I showed them papers were I filed for Kimberly’s adoption. Since we haven’t went in front of the judge yet. I had to let my little girl go.
Before I could see the judge. The state took Kimberly away from my uncle and his wife. They went to jail for drinking and fighting. No one told anyone that I filed for adoption and she already had a home.
I had noway of knowing all this took place. They had no phone and no one notified me.
So about a month later I was able to go up to see her. Once I showed up. I found out everything that happened. I called my attorney asked him what I should do. He said go down there to children in family. So I did! They gave me the run around. Nobody new what was going on. Where Kimberly was or nothing. Now I’m panicking and very angry. I stayed up there for a week. I wasn’t getting anywhere with children and family’s. So I had no other choice but to go home.
I called every other day. For a month or more. Finally I get a phone call. I received some shocking news. Kimberly was adopted! I stood there in shock! I cursed, screamed, and cried.
I asked how could that of happened? Their paper work went through before mine. Because they lived in a small town, there was no wait for a judge.
After that I wanted to at least be in contact. That never happened!
I love my baby girl. I miss her. There’s not a day that goes by I don’t think about her.
