Ann Coulter has a new book out, entitled Guilty, about how liberals pretend to be victims while victimizing others. NBC accommodated her by booking her on the Today Show, yanking her invitation, then reportedly banned her for life from the network.
It could not have been more perfect for book sales if Ann Coulter had arranged for it herself. The Drudge Report blared in large headlines how Ann Coulter had allegedly been “banned for life” from NBC and its sister network, the left wing oriented news outlet MSNBC. According to Matt Drudge, a Today Show Executive said, “We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now. It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”
Ann Coulter was on Fox News’ Hannity and Colmes Show claiming that she had been set up. When asked by Sean Hannity how long she had been booked on the Today Show Ann Coulter replied, “For a long time, but the whole thing was a charade and a setup. It’s clear now.”
If that is true, how NBC thought it would benefit is unclear. The Today Show has taken a black eye for openly biased journalism, actually dumping a guest for her political views. Meanwhile Ann Coulter’s book sales have surged and Ann Coulter herself is able to go on other media outlets, like Hannity and Colmes, to explain how she is being victimized by the left, the very theme of her book.
Besides putting down Barack Obama and his supporters, Ann Coulter is known for saying outrageous things. In Guilty, for instance, she suggests that, “Single motherhood is like a farm team for future criminals and outcasts” which allowed Alan Colmes to be outraged about how Ann Coulter is putting down single mothers.
Meanwhile the Today Show appears to have replaced Ann Coulter with MSNBC talking head Rachel Maddow who used the nomination of Leon Panetta as CIA Director to slam President George W. Bush’s intelligence policies: “If you were in the Bush administration and which, with, with warrantless wiretapping and enhanced interrogation, torture. With rendition, with these other controversial policies in the intelligence community, that’s not going to be a career asset.”
One supposes that it is not only still the time but, at NBC, will always be the time to be “highly critical” of President George W. Bush.
If NBC were smart, it would reschedule Ann Coulter as quickly as possible. It does not want the best selling conservative author to add to her brand name “banned by NBC.” Noting how much the main stream media is hated, that can only be an asset to conservatisms warrior princess.
