Quality: Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan may be one of the worst dishes to order when dining at this restaurant. A waitress recommended that I order this meal because it was better than an entrée that was being considered. However, I learned that the Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan could use a lot of improvement. The chicken and pasta was loaded with too much cheese. One glance at my plate would give the average passersby an impression that I ordered extra cheese.
I was also surprised that my Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan was served with penne pasta. This was not a serious problem but Chicken Parmesan seems to typically be served with spaghetti or angel hair pasta. The spaghetti style pasta is the norm whether you order chicken parmesan at a restaurant or make it at home. The chicken was one good aspect of this Applebee’s restaurant meal. It is served in a large portion and is very fulfilling.
Health Factors: Applebee’s does not publish nutrition facts for their Chicken Parmesan meal. While this was not bothersome at first, a little search revealed that some consumers find this to be a very sneaking practice. I have not considered health factors when ordering an Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan meal. Now that the nutrition facts are difficult to find, it has increased my interest in learning about this menu selection. The fact that one cannot find out how much calories, sodium and fat is in an Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan meal makes it less desirable.
Price: Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan costs $10.99 which was not too bad for my dining budget. The price is acceptable because this meal is served at Applebee’s and not a fast food place or short order pizza restaurant. However, Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan appears to only be worth $7.99 because of its mediocre quality. There are appetizers that are good enough to demand a higher price than Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan. Even if Applebee’s cannot reduce the price significantly, I would have been more satisfied paying $9.99 for chicken parmesan at this restaurant.
Taste Test: Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan is mostly bland when it comes to flavor. The chicken does not have any flavor on its own and needs the marinara sauce to taste sufficient. The cheese does not have any special qualities but is a nice topping for the chicken. I only enjoyed the pasta in my Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan meal. The chicken tasted like something that could be ordered from an inner city pizza restaurant on a busy day. The marinara sauce was the only source of flavor for this entire Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan meal. I added a little salt to give this Applebee’s entrée a boost.
Verdict: Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan is a disappointment from such a popular restaurant. I would not order this meal again unless it came with a money back guarantee. At least in that case, there would be a chance that Applebee’s Chicken Parmesan would be made much better than it is currently. It is affordable, but not worth more than a regular appetizer. There are some specialty pizza restaurants that make better tasting chicken parmesan meals than Applebee’s and at a lower cost.
