Did you ever think you would ever find a reasonably-priced, unique seafood restaurant that was worthy of taking your sweetheart to for a night out on the town? You know what I mean – typically when you think of a seafood place, you think of almost cafateria-style dining. But no more! Now, when you are out for a night on the town with your sweetheart in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, you can take her here: to Aquavina!
Located at 435 South Tryon St., across from the Westin Hotel in the Ratcliffe On the Green, it is within walking distance of many major nightlife attractions. Valet service is even available, and there is complimentary covered parking for all guests to Aquavina. So that means that if your night out on the town with your little sweetheart is soggied by the rain, there is nothing to fear! Go inside and enjoy yourself to a great menu selection. Get comfortable!
Take a look at the many daily specials first of all, such as half-priced Lobster Rolls on Mondays, along with half-priced Sauvignon Blanc purchased by the glass. But Monday is not the only day to get in on Aquavina’s specials – every day there is special, such as on Fridays when you can get half-priced hush puppy shrimp, half-priced martinis, etc.!
But now move your eyes on over to the other delicious items on their extensive menu! It is a seafood-lover’s paradise (or great-food lover, period)! Start the night off right by starting with an appetizer like Blue Crab Fondue for $5, or perhaps try the Hushpuppy Dusted Shrimp with a great sweet onion remoulade, for $5. Both selections are just perfect to start the night off right, because they’re not too filling but just right for your honey and you.
If you’d rather, however, start it all off right with a great soup or salad, there is a great Cream of Tomato Soup that comes with a Grilled Basil and Goat Cheese Sandwich, for only $3, or try the Aquavina Lunch Salad for only $4. The Asian Shrimp Salad is $9, and the Smoked Chicken Salad too. Lunch entrees include the Jumbo & Blue Crab Melt, so delicious with it’s hass avocado and farmers cheese for just $10. Or the Tangerine Dusted Salmon for $8 is great with it’s unique tangerine butter sauce. There is the Fish Fry, fresh Pollock, for just $6, and oh my goodness, try te Mediterranean Shrimp Pasta for $12! But that’s just the lunch menu!
The dinner menu is completely tantalizing to the taste buds. There are selections to please your palate and your tummy like Coconut Chile Glazed Shrimp for $10, or the interesting Deconstruction of Sushi for $12 that includes wasabi marinated ahi tuna, soy tapioca, cucumber salad, cucumber gelee, and rice crackers. Want a salad that night? The Aquavina House Salad may just be the perfect way to go for $7!
But I am JUST getting started! Those were not even entrees! The dinner entrees include delicious things like the Scallop Quartet for $26, which includes pan seared-scallops with grilled asparagus, butter broiled sea scallop gratin, rice paper ravioli over diver scallop “noodles” and a smoked scallop cream seared over warm fingerling potato salad and sweet pea butter sauce! It’s a mouthful to say, and a mouthful of happy tastebuds! Or go for the Butter Broiled Yellowtail Sole, which is served up with crawfish tasso cream sauce, sautéed baby spinach, and cream cheese chive potato turnovers, for $23. There is also Pan Roasted Salmon for $24, Pan Seared Wild Sablefish for $26, Spinach and Ricotta Gnocchi for $20 (great for vegetarians), and so much more!
And have you ever known a seafood restaurant, classy or not, to have an extensive dessert menu? Well, Aquavina certainly does! There is Free Form Pumpkin Brulee for $6, their great homemade Warm “Fig Newtons” for $6 – they’re black mission fig pastries with brown sugar mascarpone ice cream, Spiced Apple Turnovers for $6, and several other selections too!
I am in love with this place, and you will be too! Hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Call them at (704) 377-9911.
