Archway Cookies is back open for business after Lance Inc. purchased the company at a bankruptcy auction. The news has led to the re-hiring of 60 employees who had lost their jobs when Archway Cookies filed for bankruptcy, and the bakery opens its doors to selling the famous Archway Cookies once again. The Archway Bakery is located in Ashland, Ohio, and had employed around 300 workers before they all lost their jobs when the Archway cookie factory was forced to declare bankruptcy in the struggling economy. The shutdown of Archway took place back in October, and is now bustling again to supply orders to stores around the country. Rather than go with the name Lance Cookies, they have stuck with selling their products under the Archway Cookie line.
The re-opening of the Archway Bakery is great news for those living in the Ashland, Ohio, area. With so many employees losing their jobs right before the holidays, it was a tough time in the community, and meant that a lot of people would be unemployed heading into the Christmas season. Now though, 60 employees so far, and possibly quite a few more in the near future, have been called back to the job site immediately in order to resume production of the famous Archway Cookie products. Getting back on the job this quickly is a great sign for the local economy in Ashland, and puts those 60 people back on the benefits which they had lost when they lost their job.
The new owner of Archway Cookies is Lance Inc., which is based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, and makes snack foods of their own. They were able to buy the entire Archway Cookie Company when it went up for auction by a private equity firm. The first act that the new owner of Archway Cookies did was to give every laid-off worker a prepaid debit card of $1500. If you want to talk about spreading good-will, that is definitely a great move by a new owner that didn’t have to do anything about the old employees, and is also a huge step in the right direction of getting this company back on the positive side of sales. With a few changes on production and distribution, they should be able to make Archway Cookies a successful business again, and there are surely enough customers out there looking for the product that it should find its product niche in stores very soon.
