Tonight it was announced on Fox News, that a Baltimore man is suing the City Police Department to the tune of $210 Million Dollars. I can’t be happier.
Daryl Martin, a Navy Veteran was pulled over in 2006 in the 900 block of Patterson Park on a “traffic stop.” The Police reportedly made Martin get out of the car at gunpoint. If that wasn’t enough, after a thorough search revealed nothing, it is reported that Baltimore City Police Officer NAME WITHELD donned a rubber glove and performed an “anal cavity search” in broad daylight, in front of 30 or more witnesses. There has been no official comment why Martin was pulled over in the first place, or what they were looking for. Fox news reports “a routine traffic stop.” They also report there was a passenger in the car, luckily he did not get the rubber glove cavity treatment.
After nothing was found in Martin’s anus, the police split, leaving the dirty glove on the ground. (Last time I checked, this would be littering.). Thanks to that nasty glove, and the many witnesses that possibly upchucked their breakfast, Martin now has the proof he needs to sue the pants off the Baltimore City Police Department.
I live in Baltimore City, and this news is not suprising to me.
There were many complaints lodged against a “Special Enforcement Unit” that is no longer in place over the course of the past few years. One resulted in a major lawsuit , and therefore this is the second. I am wondering if this will mean more citizens will come forth, who have been too scared to speak up until this point. I read on ABC News that when the team was dissolved, over 100 cases were dropped. Sad that some were probably criminals who deserved to be off the street, but thanks to shoddy police work, ran free. Most complaints were allegations of some type of abuse.
I’ve done my fair share of jury duty in the City, and can only tell you what I’ve experienced first hand. I heard of a horror story where a young boy was searched and clothes removed in the middle of the street in winter. He was carrying narcotics, which the police ultimately found (after taking every shred of clothing off.)
However guilty for the drugs, I wondered how such a horrific strip search could take place. Surely there must be guidelines and protection of civil rights. Even this young drug dealer didn’t deserve to be stark naked in the winter on the corner, and per the justice system is most likely still serving his time for the drugs. He’s probably still sitting in jail and like most people do not have the money or the guts to hire a good enough lawyer to go against the so called blue suits that do their jobs exercising vigilante rights every day. There’s always a few who are crooked, dirty, and give the rest a bad name.
I’m not saying the Baltimore City Police don’t have it rough. Their jobs are hard, and their pay is so not worth putting their life on the line every day, but it all comes down to their oath of taking the job “TO PROTECT AND SERVE.”
I can tell you from first hand experience, that you are guilty before being you must hire an attorney and prove yourself innocent in this STATE and in DELAWARE.
This is spoken from someone who is currently awaiting their day in Baltimore County court, thanks to a disgruntled ex-employee who worked for me three weeks. An 8th grade dropout stripper (who was let go from Baltimore’s Scores Nightclub) wanted to make a better life for herself and pleaded with me for some temporary work. I tried to give her a small stint in a lemonade stand. (Who am I to judge you if you want to better yourself? Last year I helped get a homeless man off the street, and I’m happy to report Barry is fully rehabilitated!)
In the middle of a festival in Newark Delaware, this girl flipped out, screaming obsenities and I had to have her removed from my area. Surrounding police asked her to leave as she was causing a distrubance. No police report was filed, and honestly I didn’t get a good look at their badges. Needless to say, she was terminated.
The next day she came to my office headquarters in Baltimore and attacked me. NOTE: THE PROPERTY ON WHICH THIS OCCURED IS PROPERTY WE OWN! She ripped my shirt and undergarments until my bare chest was hanging out in front of everyone. I was crying and mortified. I did defend myself. The police were called, and many witnesses were around.
Baltimore County Cops responded, one NAME WITHHELD had a very bad attitude. He couldn’t understand why I was upset, (as my bare boob is now exposed and I’ve been attacked, and upset…) because she was claiming that I attacked her. He acted as if he was late for dinner and didn’t care what any of the witnesses had to say. When I became very upset and crying and asked, “I am standing here half naked on my own property telling you that I was just attacked by a disgruntled employee, and you are not doing anything about it?” His reponse was for me to “Shut up before they arrested me for yelling and being out of control.”
My husband, a plumbler, three neighbors, and two temporary helpers were willing to give statements, but the Police weren’t intrested. They then urged us both to file for assault, (great, not only am I the victim, but now I’m accused too!) They considered it a he-said she-said instead of getting to the bottom of the story. Probably late for some free doughnuts.
None of their witnesses went in their report. It didn’t matter that I owned the property and had fired the girl the day before. I don’t think that went in their report.
Well I say to them when I sit and watch my local news in horror, and see how often it is that you hear of disgruntled ex-employees across the nation who lash out and KILL their old boss if that had happened to me would that have gone in your report? I’ve actually beefed up my security systems and won’t go out alone now living in fear that people can go to this length.
So now, I await my day in court to prove my innocence and her guilt, and had to hire a lawyer to protect myself and my business. I then had to supeona neighbors, witnesses, and seasonal helpers who have high paying weekday jobs who will no doubt be missing a day of work and in this tight economy I feel for them.
To add insult to injury, the story doesn’t stop there. The good news is, I’m still alive! The bad news is, I have totally lost my faith in the people who are supposed to SERVE AND PROTECT me. Good cops if you are reading this, you really need to do something about the bad cops.
Three weeks after the Maryland mayhem, the girl unbeknownst to me went to Newark, Delaware and filed charges there, as stated in the official Reporting Officer’s report that she “was head butted …(in Delaware)….and assaulted (by me) in Baltimore and wants me arrested in Delaware too (for the head butt.). ” No injuries were reported, and the incident was reported nearly three weeks after it allegedly happened.
Within a few days, a warrant was sworn out for my arrest to a bogus address of which was sent by the State of Delaware via mail and it was returned to them. This was October. I heard nothing about this until January 16th of this year, when the Newark Police called my cellphone to inform me that I had a warrant for my arrest. I thought it was a joke. It wasn’t.
A warrant was sworn out for a misdemeanor non-aggrevated assault charge, “of alleged offensive touching for the head-butting” which holds a fine of up to $575 or thirty days in jail. After turning myself in and being processed in a real life CSI lookalike lab, I again was the victim, wonderinng where my protection was.
When I asked why a warrant was sworn out, the police officer advised me this is normal procedure in Delaware for anything that is reported. Just about anyone can swear to anything about someone else, and get a warrant issued if it falls under any of the Delaware laws. OH MY. I feel sorry for the residents of Delaware who pay high personal property taxes to pay for all this wasted time. That’s even worse than Maryland!
I have a good lawyer, and know the truth will prevail.
To the POLICE SYSTEM however, I ask you, what were you thinking sticking your finger up some guy’s butt in the middle of broad daylight in Baltimore City? *without a warrant?* The only difference between him and I, is that he will get his money back for his attorney, time, trouble, disgrace, and them some. I feel as if the stripper and the Police stuck a finger in me, without a glove . THANKS GUYS!
Like I said, I apologize to the good ones, and some of you may know some, but in my experiences, I don’t think I’ll ever have trust in the police again.
As I sit and wonder what’s next to happen to me, or if I should hire a bodyguard, I share my motto: NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED and sorry, no more open lemonade positions, EVER.
