American Idol has been broadcasted for several years now, and has spawned a line of games. I’ve seen a few episodes of American Idol, and it makes for an easy port to the gaming world. These include video games, board games, and much more. American Idol has games available on the PlayStation 2, personal computer, Game Boy Advance, and mobile phone as well. Each different version of American Idol game utilizes different elements from the show that allow players to trace back and delve further into the world of pop music and gaming. Here is a review of 3 American Idol games that bring avid players into the world of American Idol.
1. My American Idol Monopoly Board Game. Fans of Monopoly and American Idol come together in this reinvented classic. Produced by USAopoly, this game retails for anywhere from 12$-35$, approximately. This version also includes six collectible American Idol themed pewter tokens. Recommended for ages 8 and up. This game is different from the video game versions in that there is less emphasis on singing and rhythm. Instead, ala Monopoly, My American Idol Monopoly Board Game lets players play in groups of two to six. This allows for more developed game play and leaves no one out in case more people than two want to play together.
2. American Idol for PlayStation 2. An action game published by The Codemasters Software Company Limited, and released in November 7th, 2003. This game show is won by utilizing rhythm and music to show off your singing talent. With Rehearsal, Endurance, and In the Competition modes, it is up to the player to pass all five levels and get the highest ranking to achieve a style bonus. The game offers both male and female vocals for the player. This game is not as portable as the Game Boy Advance version, with the levels and ranking system, the Playstation 2 offers better graphics and sound overall.
3. American Idol for Game Boy Advance. Produced by Vivendi Universal, this is priced at $52.99 at http://www.amazon.com. This game is music-based and requires the player to utilize elements of karaoke while also overcoming the game play of Dance Dance Revolution, a rhythm game. Judges offer full feedback, with over 4,000 comments from Simon, Randy and Paula. Take the opportunity to create your own performer and take them to create a pop hit during the American Idol grand finale! This game comes with over forty tracks and a full wardrobe packed with clothing and accessories.
