If you look out your window and see the mountains of snow, don’t worry. Just realize that according to the calendar, spring is just around the corner. And along with the blooming flowers that spring brings, there’s also the chance to go back to your home improvement activities.
Whether you’re just changing how things look around the house, or you’re adding on a new wing, spring is the best time for home improvement. If you’re not quite sure where to begin, hopefully this article can help. Here are few home improvement activities you can do to get started.
You’ve been sitting around your house since the leaves started to change colors, there are Christmas presents sitting around that you haven’t used yet, and your closet is still storing that outfit that was cool 3 years ago! This is why housewives invented “Spring Cleaning”. It’s time to vacuum, sweep, mop, wash the walls, and most importantly organize! All that stuff sitting around the house that’s taking up space and looking messy? It can all be put into three categories: stuff you need or want to keep, stuff that belongs in the garbage, and stuff you can sell for profit on eBay. Throw things away, reorganize whatever you’re keeping, and then take pictures of everything else to get more hits when you put it up for auction!
You’d be surprised how much different your home can look with a new paint job. You could go outside and make your house pink! Or turn your bedroom into a relaxing and cool white. You can paint just a single room, or the entire place! You’ll need paint, a paint stick for mixing, a couple of paint rollers, and a brush or two. And don’t forget about that giant piece of plastic for splash protection. We’re painting your walls here, not your Persian rug!
You should get your roof inspected every spring. Snow and ice can cause damage to your shingles and flashings, so you should check out what needs to be fixed. In some cases, you can get up there and fix it yourself, in others you may want to call a roofer.
This one might be more expensive to start, but it’ll save you a lot of money in the long run. Change all the bulbs in your house to those crazy shaped energy efficient ones. Put some solar shingles on your roof. Get appliances with higher energy star ratings. Save the environment while making your house look hip and modern.

It’s been running all winter. It probably needs it.
