Buying a Valentine’s Day gift for a tween boy may seem quite the task as they are fast approaching the teen years and may be getting more difficult to buy for. You don’t necessarily need to buy anything expensive but it is nice for the child to know that you are thinking of him at this special time of year.
A very inexpensive gift and one that will keep giving all year is a magazine subscription. Our family favorite is National Geographic Kids but there are many out there to suit every interest for tweens. National Geographic Kids is only $15 for a one year subscription, that will be 10 issues. You also get a cool 12″ inflatable world ball free! You can buy the latest edition and wrap it as a gift, then include a note telling the child that more will be coming each month! This magazine is aimed at children ages 6-14 years old.
Books are always a good gift idea to encourage reading and broaden the child’s horizons and imagination. There are books for every Tween taste; sci fi, sports, movies, fantasy and more. Barnes & Noble.com has a category especially for children ages 9-12, to give you lots of ideas for choosing out a great book. A book we are enjoying at the moment for this age group is ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard’ (Harry Potter Series). It costs $10.99 at Barnes & Noble.
For the tween boy who is into music, an iTunes gift card is perfect. With his gift card he can select any song that he loves from the iTunes website and download it to his iPod. You can purchase gift cards directly at the iTunes website. Choose the amount you want from $15 -$100 and it will be shipped within 1-2 business days.
Lego.com has some great gift ideas for tween boys. Almost every boy I know, of all ages loves to play with Lego building sets. A gift of a Lego building set is a timeless classic.
The Jetrax T6 is a cool ship that is great for children ages 9-16. It costs $49.99 and is available now at the website. This toy includes an Antroz figure and blasters that actually fire. This set is huge at 21″ long and 16″ wide and will keep your child occupied for many hours. This set will please any child that is into Bionicles or Technics and wants to add to their collection.
Another great Lego building set is the Star Wars Jedi Starfighter. This is another cool ship in the Star Wars Lego collection and is great for the 9-12 year age group. It costs $49.99 and is available now at the website. This toy includes missile launchers and includes two figures. It measures 11″wide and 10″ tall when built. Fantastic toy for the Star Wars fan!
Other ideas for this tween boy age group are a shopping spree at the mall, cash, coupon’s to try out a new activity such as ice skating or horseback riding, fast food or movie theater gift certificate, new gear for a sports fan or the latest new video or computer game. A gift certificate to an electronics store is a great choice as they have a great deal to choose from such as a dvd, games or music.
Although there are many different kinds of gifts that you can buy for your tween boy, Valentine’s Day is not really about buying him the perfect ‘gift’. Take the time to spend with him doing something he enjoys; go to see a movie together, pick an activity or a restaurant that he loves and just hang out together. Those kinds of gifts are priceless. Happy Valentines’ Day!
