Everyone knows that you can always count on your fishing skill to make some WoW gold. Many WoW players find fishing too boring to level up – I can’t count the number of Alliance WotLK level 80s I’ve encountered who haven’t yet leveled their WoW fishing to WotLK Northrend required levels and would rather spend their gold on WotLK fish in the AH than fish themselves. This means there are some great opportunities for a WoW toon in Northrend to make some serious WoW gold via their WotLK level fishing skill. If you haven’t leveled your WotLK fishing, and are in desperate need of WoW gold, it’s time to get to work and make more gold!
This article, part 1 of 2, will focus exclusively on WotLK fishing and selling the raw fish for WoW gold. You also have the option to cook the fish and sell the WotLK buff foods for gold if your cooking skill is at Northrend levels. I’ll cover that WotLK gold-making topic in another article series. While it is ideal to fish in fish-specific pools when you are looking for fish for your personal use, I find that it is more efficient to pick a spot and decide to fish for X amount of time when your fishing goal is to earn WoW gold. There are 2 spots which I personally think are ideal for this purpose for Alliance WotLK players. This article covers the first spot which is ideal for an Alliance player to fish and make gold in WotLK.
Area 1 for Fishing for WoW gold: Valiance Keep
I find it easiest to go to the small dock down the stairs behind the flightmaster, but any seaside location will do.
Fish Acquired at this location:
Rockfin Grouper – moderate value Rockfin Grouper is used in 2 WotLK recipes, and only one of these makes a buff food. They sell for moderate gold on the AH since they are often in good supply.
Imperial Manta Ray – high value Manta Rays are used in 2 very desirable WotLK buff recipes and therefore sell for a nice amount of WoW gold.
Borean Man o’ War – low value Not currently used in any WotLK recipes, which is odd considering there are pools of these to fish along the coast of Northrend. My recommendation is to save these for future gold making because I believe that in a forthcoming patch, there will be a WotLK recipe (or some WotLK crafted item) that uses this fish.
Darkwater Clams – moderate to high value The succulent clam meat from darkwater clams is used in 2 desirable WotLK recipes – one makes a buff food and the other makes an achievement food. The clam meat itself sells well, and you can also get 2 gems from these clams – North Sea Pearl (more common) and Siren’s Tear (less common). Siren’s Tears sell extremely well on the AH, well over 100 gold on most servers.
This is the first desirable spot to fish and make WoW gold for WotLK Alliance players. Please see my next article for second WotLK location you can fish to make plenty of WoW gold in no time!
