Bob Crowley was selected as the Survivor Gabon winner on Sunday night, as he proved to be the best surviving survivor on that last installment of Survivor 2008. By a vote of 4-3, Bob attained just enough votes to edge out fellow contestant Susie, and head home as the winner of Survivor: Gabon. To get there, he had to win a string of 5 consecutive immunity challenges to make it that far, along the way showing that he truly was the sole survivor on this season’s installment of the hit CBS reality show.
The $1 million competition came down to one final vote, though it probably couldn’t have been predicted to be that close in the end by most of the fans watching this season of Survivor. Earlier in the fall, it looked like one of the teams was going to really dominate the game, but they became too over-confident, and allowed three unlikely finalists to “fly under the radar” and make it all the way to the final vote. That left contestants Bob, Susie (a teacher and mother), and Sugar (a model and actress) as the final contestants to go in front of a jury of 7 other contestants that would decide who would go home with the $1 million prize at the end of the night.
Survivor is a reality show where contestants are taken to another country, and are forced to survive off the environment and their wits. This season saw 18 contestants taken to the country of Gabon, where they were tasked with surviving amongst the wildlife as well as the other contestants. Every couple of days an immunity challenge was held to decide which team (tribe) would have to vote someone out, and every 3rd day, someone left the show. This continued until day 39, when the final three were put in front of the most recently voted out 7 cast-mates, who decided by the vote of 4-3 that Bob should win. It was a close vote, and Bob became the oldest player (57 years old) to ever win on the show.
It was quite an ending to an exciting season of Survivor, and it probably drew back a lot of fans who had felt that the show was getting a little boring recently. Nobody could have predicted who these three finalists were going to be, and it was quite interesting to see the final votes revealed as Bob Crowley was declared the winner. He was certainly a humble guy both during the show, and during the awarding of the prize, and there really can be no arguing about whether he deserved to win the prize after he won so many competitions along the way. Now fans can wait for the next season of Survivor, which will be coming out in the fall.
