Situated in an unassuming strip center in West University, the British Isles has been providing Anglophiles and British ex-pats with a taste of the UK. Upon passing the store, you immediately get the feeling of a typical gift shop. A curiosity glance will reveal that the front windows are stocked with fine China to capture the eye, but once inside, the real spirit of the store comes through. Enter and you will find a wealth of everything British. From Scottish kilts to English tea, it can all be found inside.
The arrangement is such that you can easily find items from your favorite country, and no matter what your budget or age is, you will be able to find something to suit yourself. Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and England all have their respective areas. If you do not know exactly what you want you can find it just as easily as if you did. The helpful staff will assist you in picking the perfect gift for that special someone, or yourself.
This is the ideal place for a trip to your childhood if your were raised in the United Kingdom. A large number of American children can remember the Paddington Bear, clad in his bright blue rain slicker and red hat or Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit. Children’s tea sets are also there for young ones to have their own tea time alongside their parents.
A large collection of British specialty foods can also be found at the back of the shop. Rows of tea line up before the aisles of snack items. If you have always wanted to try lemon curd on a freshly baked scone with a cup of tea, this is the place to go to find everything you need. There are some specialty grocery stores in Houston which sell British food items, but not with the same selection and variety as British Isles. If it cannot be found here, you will not find it in Houston.
Many couples choose to register at British Isles for their wedding gifts. A large selection of both formal and casual dinner ware as well as housewarming gifts is an ideal pool from which to choose for a gift for the newly married. The selection of china is unforgettable. Intricate artwork on the service sets resemble fine paintings found in a museum rather than dinner plates and tea pots. Just looking at all of the dinner ware could take hours.
