As most of you already know, I am a huge fan of Britney Spears. I always have been, and I probably always will be. An early preview of her new album Circus has been posted. What does this Britney fan think of the new album? Find out here!
Womanizer – The first single that has already been released from the Britney Spears Circus album is a fun, upbeat song. Most of you have probably already heard it. Though I do like this song a lot, I must admit that it’s really not my favorite Britney Spears song. The lyrics are a little bit repetitive – but is still a fun song to dance to!
Circus – This is the best upbeat song by Britney Spears that I have heard in a long, long time. This, obviously, is the song that the Circus album is named after. The lyrics which say, “All eyes on me in the center of the ring / just like a circus,” remind me of “Piece Me.” But then she says, “I’m like a firecracker / I make it hot,” which reminds me more of “Break the Ice” – and so does the beat of this song. Overall, I really like this Britney Spears song, and am glad that it’s going to be the second single from the album to be released.
Out From Under – I haven’t heard a slow song by Britney Spears that did it for me in a very long time, but I must say that I LOVE this one. The chorus “I don’t wanna dream about all the things that never were / and in the end I can live without when I’m from under / Maybe I can live without / When I’m out from under,” and the second verse which says, “So let me go / Just let me fly away / Let me feel the space between us growing deeper” just make me want to belt out in song. Anyone who is a true fan of Britney Spears will really love this song. It is a lot like her earlier music (e.g. pre-Toxic).
Kill the Lights – I think that this is a really fun Britney Spears song, but if you really don’t like her, then you will probably find her voice in it a bit annoying. The chorus: “Mr. Photographer / I think I’m ready for my close-up (Tonight) / Make sure you catch me from my good side” is fun and a bit empowering, but the song isn’t my favorite one from the album.
Shattered Glass – This song is pretty upbeat, but to me it’s nothing special. The lyrics, “Shut shat shut shut shattered glass / Broke oke oke oke oke the glass” are a bit repetitive. The sounds of glass shattering in the background are a nice effect, but I don’t think this song will make it big.
If U Seek Amy – This is another one of my favorite songs from the Britney Spears Circus album. If Britney gets any criticism for this album, I think that it will be for this song. The lyrics “Oh baby baby have you seen Amy tonight? / Is she in the bathroom? Is she smoking up outside? / Oh baby baby does she take a piece of lime / For the drink Imma buy her / Do you know what she likes so? / Oh tell me have you seen cause I’m so oh oh / I can’t get her out of my brain,” imply bisexuality, or homosexuality. In any case, this is a really upbeat, danceable song in which Britney Spears’ vocals shine!
Unusual You – “Unusual You” is definitely my favorite song from the Britney Spears Circus CD. It’s slow, yet a little bit upbeat and fun at the same time. It’s purely a love song, as you can see through the lyrics, “Been so many things when I was someone else / Boxer in the ring trying to defend myself / In the private eye to see what’s going on (That’s long gone) / When I’m with you, I can just be myself / You’re always where you said you will be / Shocking cause I never know love like this could exist.” In the song, Britney Spears also says “Baby you’re so unusual / didn’t anyone tell you you’re supposed to break my heart? / I expect you to…so why haven’t you?” Although this song is not like anything else that Britney Spears has ever done before, I definitely have to say it’s one of the best so far.
Blur – This Britney Spears song is another one that just doesn’t do it for me. It’s just a little bit too slow, and like the name of the song, a bit blurry. The lyrics, “Can’t remember what I did last night / Maybe I shouldn’t have given in / But I just couldn’t fight / Hope I didn’t but I think I might’ve / Everything, everything is still a blur,” might be relatable for some, but I guess they just aren’t for me. I would rank this my least favorite on the CD.
Mmm Papi – This is one of the other songs on the Britney Spears Circus CD that I’m just not too fond of. The song, which goes “You can come take me away / There’s no pressure play all day / Hold me tight and don’t let go! / Mmm Papa love you / Mmm Papa love you” sound like something that Gwen Stefani would do. For some reason, they just don’t seem to be suitable to Britney Spears.
Mannequin – This song is very weird to me. The lyrics “If you wanna scream / scream your lungs out / if you wanna just cry / cry your eyes out” seem very inspirational, but the rest of the lyrics in the song are a bit confusing. The music is a bit edgy and somewhat danceable. I suppose it’s one of the better songs on the Circus CD.
Lace and Leather – The sensual lyrics of this song suit its somewhat upbeat music. The chorus begins with, “Baby take a seat / eyes on me, this is my show / your one and only pleasure,” and I can’t help but feel that this Britney Spears song is very empowering for women. Although the lyrics to “Lace and Leather” may seem slutty to some, I think they are done classy enough to make this one of Britney’s hits.
My Baby – If you remember the song called “One Kiss From You,” this is the closest thing that I can seem to compare “My Baby” to. It’s not a bad song at all, but it reminds me of some of the older slow songs by her that I wasn’t too fond of. In comparison to her new developed style as a musician, it’s interesting.
Radar – If you’re a Britney Spears song, then you probably already know that “Radar” was on her album Blackout. This was my own personal favorite song from the CD, and I was disappointed that it was never released as a single, so maybe Britney Spears and her record label had the same thoughts. The opening lyrics, “Confidence is a must / Cockiness is a plus / edginess is a rush …edges I like em rough / Intoxicate me, I’m a lush/ Stop you’re making me blush, people are lookin’ at us” just reel you in.
Overall, I really like Britney Spears Circus a lot. Some of the songs, such as “Circus,” “Out From Under,” “Unusual You,” and “If U Seek Amy” are some of the best songs that Britney Spears has ever done. There is one more song than what was on Blackout, and the bonus track “Radar” is a great choice. I know that when the CD is released, I will definitely purchase it!
