Traveling with pets is not a hardship at many California beaches. Leash free dog parks and beaches can be found along the coast is many locations. Each park or pet friendly beach has specific guidelines and hours of operation. Enjoy and afternoon of watching “Fido” romp in the sand, and chase balls into the surf. Long Beach offers two pet friendly stretches of sand for pet lovers to enjoy. Recreation Dog Park is located on Seventh Street and Federation Drive. Non-aggressive dogs can enjoy this dog park leash free. The “Casting Pond” is a favorite spot to play and cool off while playing at Recreation Dog Park.
The Long Beach Dog Zone is a fabulous three-acre unfenced full throttle play is for dogs and puppies to enjoy. This California pet friendly beach area is 60 feet deep, and runs along the shoreline. Jack’s Peak County Park is located in Monterey at 25020 Jack’s Peak Park Road. This park area requires pets to remain leashed. A $2 fee for entering this dog park is charged. Nearly nine miles of walking picturesque walking trails entice more and more visitors each year.
The Huntington Beach is one of the most popular dog friendly beaches in California. This beach is located in the up-scale section of Orange County. This is a leash free beach, and runs along the shore for approximately two miles.
The Coronado City Beach on Ocean Drive in San Diego is a leash free beach, which is extremely clean, and wide.
Del Mary City Beach is pet friendly only in non-summer months. This beach is open to humans and their canine companions from May through October. Dogs can be off leash, and animal clean up is strictly enforced.
Moss Beach on Ocean Avenue in Monterey County is also a leash free beach, with ample free parking.
The Sand Dollar Beach in Big Sur is another worthy leash free option. Beach camping with pets is also allowed at Sand Dollar Beach.
Mitchell’s Cove Beach is located on the south side of Woodward Avenue is Santa Cruz. This leash free beach is open from sunrise to 10 a.m. and then reopens from 4p.m. to sunset daily.
The Olde Port Beach in San Luis Obispo County is located left of the oil pier. This beach is not as large as some of California’s pet friendly beaches, but is very clean and attractive.
The Rio Del Mar State Beach is also located in Santa Cruz County. This leash free beach is open year around. Dogs can play in the waves with beach toys until sunset.
