I haven’t had canker sore in years. Oddly enough, following a plethora of information about canker sores here on Associated Content, I felt a canker sore developing in the upper crevice above my tooth line. I was surprised because I don’t experience canker sores very often.
Product: Orajel Canker Sore Patch
My son, who experiences frequent and painful canker sores recently purchased a new product, Orajel Canker Sore Patch. It is a maximum strength oral pain reliever for canker sores. We’ve used Orajel products since the kids were teething, so I felt comfortable purchasing the product.
Product Packaging and Information
You’ll find Orajel Canker Sore Patch in the oral healthcare section of your local drugstore and grocery store. It is a product of Del Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Del Laboratories, Inc, developed in 2007. It is easily identifiable and claims to:
· Relieve pain immediately
· Protects for hours so the sore can heal
· Form a dissolving oral bandage
· Treat with a 15mg Benzocaine solution
Application of Orajel Canker Sore Patch
The canker sore patch comes in the form of a flat, white pill. It is to be applied to a clean, dry canker sore. Once held in place for 5-10 seconds, which can be difficult depending on the location of the canker sore, the pill begins to dissolve forming a benzocaine patch which you are to allow to dissolve slowly in the mouth.
Orajel Canker Sore Patches are convenient to purchase and relatively easy to use.
Benzocaine is an effective pain reliever and it takes only seconds to feel relief.
The patch can be used every two hours up to four times a day.
My teenage son had more trouble than I did keeping the patch in place until it dissolved into a sticky substance.
The benzocaine was effective, but it has a slightly bitter flavor. It depends on your tolerance for bitter meds as to whether you can successfully use this product. It isn’t offensively bitter, but the bitterness is there.
It feels gummy when it dissolves on the canker sore. This healing covering works well if you use the Orajel Canker Sore patch prior to bedtime, but don’t use it and try to eat or drink. Food and drink will get mixed with the canker sore patch and create a glob that is a little difficult to deal with.
Conclusion regarding Orajel Canker Sore Patch
This is a great Orajel product for zapping canker sore pain. I would definitely use it again, although I don’t think my husband could tolerate it and my son used it only because of a severe canker sore inflammation.
A canker sore preparation that eases pain and promotes healing, without the bitter taste and ingestion of benzocaine seems to be a more reasonable choice for those like my husband and kids.
