It has been reported by the New York Times that Caroline Kennedy will seek the vacant senate seat of Hillary Clinton. Caroline Kennedy has never been one to seek the spotlight. If she gets appointed she will be taking the seat once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It has been reported here that Robert Kennedy Jr did not want to take his father’s Senate seat. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. urged his cousin Caroline Kennedy to take the position.
Governor David Paterson has confirmed that Caroline Kennedy did in fact call him to inquire about the vacant senate seat. Governor David Paterson said “The conversation was informational,” Governor David Patterson has others that are also likely candidates including congress woman Kirsten Gillibrand who currently holds the 20th congressional district in upstate New York, Thomas R. Suozzi who is a Nassau County executive and Andrew M. Cuomo who is New York State’s attorney general.
Andrew Cumo was considered the front runner. Now that Caroline Kennedy’s name is in that hat that may not be the case.
Hillary Clinton will be confirmed as President-elect Barack Obama’s secretary of state, in January or February.
