If your cell phone is simply not holding a charge for very long anymore, the problem might be you. Many things that you do or don’t do could be affecting the battery life on your phone. Still, there are other factors out of your control that decrease your battery life.
For example, did you know that no matter how much battery power you use or don’t use that the life of a lithium ion battery decreases automatically as time goes by? This is true because the chemical inside the battery break down and weaken over time. Cell phone batteries are not meant to last forever, but, if you employ some of the following techniques and nix some bad habits, your cell phone battery life will greatly increase.
For starters, one very simple measure is to disable the vibrating option on your cell phone. Placing your calls to ring and vibrate may be handy, but it drains your cell phone battery.
Another tip is to remove all the pictures from your cell phone and put them on your computer. This is important for two reasons. Loading your pictures takes up cell phone battery power and storing the pictures on your phone takes up memory. By moving your mobile phone pictures to a file on your computer you will save battery life and cell phone memory.
Playing games on your cell phone also depletes your cell phone battery life. I am not suggesting you quit playing video games on your cell phone, but, you may want to consider changing your cell phones display brightness. If you have your cell phone display set to the highest brightness, ask yourself why and if it is really important. If it is not important for you to have the display brightness at max, then you should disable that feature and let the brightness display be the average strength.
Another cell phone battery life hogger is texting. Because your phone is open and bright while you are texting you are using up a lot of battery life. There really isn’t much you can do about this except to change your brightness level and maybe input some templates. If you plan to be saying a lot of the same thing, you could use templates to make your text session go by much quicker and save your battery life.
You probably know by now that letting your phone die completely and then charge it is the best route. Some of us don’t even think to charge our cell phones until it is too late and our phone battery dies anyway! But, one thing that many of us do is to turn the phone on while it is charging. Many say that this affects the overall lifespan of our battery and is something we need to quit doing. If it is possible, leave your phone off when charging it. But, if you are like me, you will be too nervous to keep your phone off for any extended period of time. Who knows what important calls you might miss? This is one thing I don’t plan on doing. If leaving my phone on while it is charging will reduce my batteries overall life, oh well. I would rather replace a battery than to possibly miss an important business or family emergency call.
Here are some other things to avoid so that your battery life will not deplete so quickly. Do not leave your phone in the direct heat or sunlight. Cold temperatures are also bad of your cell phone. Taking your phone off the charger before the charge is complete is also a no-no. Never place your cell phone battery in the freezer. This myth has caused many cell phone owners to have an exploded battery in their freezer. You probably don’t want cell phone battery goo all over your frozen foods. Try not to over or under charge your cell phone battery. Once your phone beeps to announce the charge is complete, take it off the charger. By overcharging your cell phone battery or undercharging your cell phone battery, you take the risk of damaging the chemicals inside the cell phone battery.
If your battery has already been damaged and will not hold a charge for longer than a few hours even when not in use, it may be time to get a new battery. Sometimes batteries don’t last as long as we think they should or possibly you damaged the battery too much to revive it. If this is the case, buy a new cell phone battery and incorporate the above tips to extend your cell phone battery life.
