Having the perfect birthday party for your little one can be both exciting and stressful for the party planning parents. Many parents are swamped with work like cleaning the entire house, preparing enough food for all of the guests, planning the games, keeping everyone entertained and then the big mess to clean up when all the festivities are over. Add to all of that the buying of the gifts, wrapping them and ensuring that your little angel is happy on their big day (and well behaved!) and it is all enough to wear you out.
It’s ok to take the easy way out this year – give yourself permission. Why not celebrate your child’s birthday at a fun and exciting party away from home and let someone else clean up the mess? It may seem like Indiana doesn’t have many options for party venues in the cooler months but there are some great venues around our capital that may pleasantly surprise you. Both you and your child will be sure to have a blast at some of these great party places in the Indianapolis area.
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
Located just north of downtown Indianapolis, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is celebrated as one of the best in the country. A nationwide survey of children conducted by Parents Magazine rated the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis as the number one in the country ( http://www.parents.com/family-life/travel/us-destinations/the-10-best-childrens-museums/?page=1 ) and if you or your children have never been, it’s a must visit. Aside from being one of the best Children’s Museums in the country, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is also a spectacular choice for a birthday party.
When you book a birthday party at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, you and your guests not only get admission to the museum, but you also get a themed party room, party ware and a special gift from the Museum Store. If you are a member of the Children’s Museum the cost for the party package is $270.00 and it is $300.00 for non-members. It may seem a bit pricey but this cost does include admission to the museum for up to 20 guests, 20 carousel ride tickets, use of the birthday party room for 1 ½ hours, online party invitations, a themed birthday cake from Taylor’s Bakery (serves 20) and themed plates, napkins and cups. With admission costs at $9.50 per child age 2 – 17 and $14.50 for adults 18 – 59, and carousel rides at $1 a piece, the cost could easily be $250, so the birthday package is a great deal. As an added bonus, the museum has a really nice parking garage and walkway to the museum and parking is always free.
They have an in house caterer to take care of any of your food needs if you so chose and also allow for you to decorate your party room. Though they do require that decorations be approved prior to your party and ask that you not include balloons with your decorations. If a caterer isn’t for you, the museum also has a budget friendly food court with a terrific selection and tons of seating. If you would like to book a party at The Children’s Museum you may call their Customer Service Center at
317-334-4000. You can get more information by visiting their website at www.childrensmuseum.org or you can call them at 317-334-3322. The Children’s Museum birthday party is truly a great value and an experience that the children and adults alike won’t soon forget.
Located about 15 minutes north east of Indianapolis in Noblesville, Indiana, Recreation Unlimited is a terrific choice for a cool birthday party. I had the pleasure of attending a birthday party recently at Recreation Unlimited and was very impressed. Recreation Unlimited is a retailer of Rainbow play systems play sets, pool tables, basketball goals, spas, game tables, bars and other game room accessories. They have taken the average show-room and added a unique twist by allowing the general public to come play on the equipment they have on display. With Rainbow play systems from average sized to ridiculously gigantic, the look on my son’s eyes when we walked in was of astonishment. The show room is enormous and the lay out is very user friendly. The adults can shoot hoops on one of their many basketball goals while the kids swing, climb and slide on some of the largest play ground sets I have ever seen. You can also stroll through their second show room that houses their spas, game tables, bars and game room accessories, though you may find it hard not to buy anything. The “party zone” has 15 or more play sets, 10 basketball goals, doll house play tables, playhouses, and Thomas the Train play tables.
A birthday party at Recreation Unlimited is fun for everyone and easy on the birthday parents. They do express that the birthday parties offered are for kids aged 2 to 7. The party room that is provided has kids tables and chairs, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, free ice and supplies for clean up. The costs of the parties vary for time of day and day of week and by number of children. The prices include up to 15 children (not including the birthday child, their siblings or relatives) and each additional child is $10.00 a piece. There is a maximum of 20 children and no limit to the amount of adults. The times and prices are weekdays from 10 am – 12 pm, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm, 3 pm – 5 pm is $95.00 and 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm is $150.00. Saturday and Sunday times are all $195.00 and the same time slots are offered. There is a $75 deposit required to reserve the party date that is applied towards the party price. Some of the important rules they have include no alcohol on premises, no pinatas, there must be 1 adult for every 4 children and shoes are required to be on at all times. Local pizza places that will deliver to Recreation Unlimited include Donatos, Hungry Howie’s, Domino’s, Papa John’s and Pizza King. For more information you can visit their website at www.recreationunltd.com or you can call 317-773-3545 to book your next party.
My experience at Recreation Unlimited was fantastic. Out of all of the child birthday parties I have drug my husband too, this was by far his most favorite. In fact, I think he may have had more fun than some of the kids! The children all loved it and the facility was very clean and the staff were incredibly polite and professional. A terrific choice for something different for the next birthday party you plan.
