The following Colorado Springs police blotter is a compilation of the police activity in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from January 24-25, 2009.
January 25, 2009-Colorado Springs police responded to a motor vehicle theft in progress at the Ritz Grill.
The suspect, an older male, approached a couple in front of their SUV, which was running at the time, and asked them for a cigarette. He then proceeded to jump into the driver’s seat and back out. The female owner tried to stop him by opening the passenger side door, but fell to the ground as the suspect sped off.
A police officer located the SUV minutes later and pursued the suspect in a slow chase. The suspect refused to pull over, continuing to run red lights and fleeing the police for many blocks. Eventually, AIR1 took over the pursuit, at which time the suspect pulled off the road and ran away on foot, jumping a fence a block later.
The SUV was recovered, but was severely damaged as a result of the suspect driving up and over a median. Witnesses identified the suspect as Robert Ramsey, who was then arrested and booked with quite a few charges, motor vehicle theft, hit and run, and DUI among them. He is 48 years old.
January 25,2009-Colorado Springs police reported a robbery at a McDonald’s restaurant early this morning.
The suspect demanded money from employees, forced them into the back of the restaurant, and stole and unknown amount of cash.
The suspect acted as though he had a weapon, but evidently never used it, as no one actually saw one on his person. After stealing the money, he fled the premises to an unknown location.
He is described as being black or Hispanic, around 5’7, and approximately 200 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.
January 25, 2009-Colorado Springs police responded to a burglary call early this morning. The home where the burglary was taking place has been the site of many previous police calls. This time, police found that an ex-boyfriend of the resident’s sister had broken out a window and entered the home.
The suspect was found hiding in a bedroom closet awaiting the return of his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend. He failed to show himself after police demanded he exit the closet. Police forcibly removed him and arrested him on charges of burglary and stalking.
The suspect is 34-year-old Travis Smith.
January 24, 2009-Police arrested a suspect early this morning on grounds of parole violation.
Police responded to a vehicle disturbance near Moffat Circle and apprehended the suspect, who was a passenger in the vehicle. He fled the vehicle, was pursued by police, and immediately detained after a brief struggle.
Police identified the suspect as 36-year-old Robert Garcia, who was wanted for violating parole, and is now also charged with interference and resisting arrest.
