A “Donor’s Conference” is converging in Egypt to attempt to raise as much as $2 Billion dollars for the rebuilding of Gaza following the Israeli incursion that ended just weeks ago. The Obama Administration has pledged $900 Million, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will make her first visit to Israel in her new post. She is not expected to travel to Gaza to survey the damage personally.
The money will be diverted through Non-Government Agencies and United Nations Agencies in an attempt to prevent a direct aide to Hamas.
Infitada and Civil Strife has become a good business for the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority, and in fact, may be the only business going right now. Israel continues to heavily restrict border crossings in Gaza and The West Bank, which could disrupt attempts to actually utilize the $2 Billion, but which draws attention to the Palestinian condition, which is a travesty of Human Rights Abuse.
Israel heavily restricts border crossings in and out of Gaza and The West Bank, which restricts Palestinian citizenry from seeking gainful employment outside of their zones, or even of water, food, and necessary supplies to survive. They do this with absolute authority, they do it without predictable rhyme or reason, they do it with a violent and heavy-handed approach.
The irony in that the Jewish State was borne of the horrors of the Holocaust just a generation ago and now the Jewish State has turned into the Nazi-esque facist state is not lost on many.
Hamas continues to stir violent response from Israel by shooting rockets into Israel, refusing to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist, and sponsoring actions by suicide bombers. That Hamas is the legally elected officials of the Palestinian Authority has become the greatest roadblock to a two-state solution to the situation in Israel, and until both sides can step down from their rhetoric and violent actions, no solution will come about.
And until countries from all over the Middle East and The World over refuse to stop donating money to both sides, it will continue to enable the cycle of violence that sees the oppressors, the oppressed, the criminal, and the heavyhanded overlords rewarded with financial stimulation they would not receive were they enduring as a peaceful society–whether together or apart.
Fighting and killing and in the end getting a big-payday when the smoke clears is a much easier way to proceed from now into the foreseeable future.
