Singer Chris Brown and his ladylove Rihanna, two of the year’s hottest R&B stars, were both slated to perform at the Grammys on Sunday and were both nominated for awards, but neither showed up.
Chris Brown’s reason for being there was very shocking and scandalous. Shortly before the awards show, police revealed that Brown was under investigation for the assault of an unidentified woman. Apparently Chris Brown and the woman were in a car arguing when things got heated and Brown got violent. They both got out of the car, and when the police arrived at the scene, the woman had visible injuries. Brown was later arrested, questioned and released on bail.
Of course it’s unclear whether or not the woman involved in the assault was Rihanna, but most fans will surely start speculating and putting two and two together. But even if the other woman wasn’t her, Rihanna would surely be upset by the ordeal; it would take nerves of steel to perform after hearing that your boyfriend was with another woman, and, on top of that, in legal trouble for assaulting her.
Neither of the two won a Grammy; their slots on the show were filled; and no mention of their absence was made during the telecast. So most viewers were probably unaware of the scandal.
Unfortunately, this will probably spell the end for this superstar couple, regardless of whether or not the woman involved was Rihanna, and the good guy image of Chris Brown, an artist admired by so many, will forever be tarnished.
Brown has been a superstar since age 16, being compared to R&B legends like Usher and Michael Jackson, but he is yet to win a Grammy. He’s done some charity work in the past for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and he has a squeaky-clean record when it comes to legal problems.
Rihanna is the first Barbadian singer to win a Grammy award, and has also done quite a bit of charity work for children, even starting her own charity called the Believe Foundation. She’s also participated in the “Fashion Against AIDS” project and a UNICEF ad campaign.
It’s their success, charity work, and inspirational stories that have made these two such great role models, and it’s sad that this scandal has ruined their perfect image for so many adoring fans.
One thing is for certain, however; even though the two of them didn’t show up or win, they definitely managed to steal the show.
