Discovery Place is a wonderful place for families to go to. It is a science and nature museum, and it is one of the largest in the country. It was made in 1981. Discovery Place is definitely a must see if you are in Charlotte. The museum just has so much to offer.
Location & Parking:
Discovery Place is located in the extensive complex in uptown Charlotte. It can be found on North Tryon Street. Parking for Discovery Place is located in a parking deck right behind the museum at the corner of Church and Sixth Streets. When you leave the museum be sure to show your receipt of your Discovery Place ticket to get a discounted parking rate.
What it has to offer:
The reason why Discovery Place is such a great family activity is because it has so many things to offer. It has an OMNIMAX theater, a 79-foot domed planetarium, a three foot rainforest, aquariums, computer labs, discovery areas for young children, and changing and permanent exhibits. The museum also offers things such as day camps for children, classes, and workshops. An example of some of the fun things that families can do is touch stingrays and starfish at the aquarium. There are always new exhibitions at Discovery Place, but the permanent exhibitions are something you can always count on being there. Discovery Place is one of those places that you cannot see all in one day, and it makes you want to go back time and time again.
In the Future:
Discovery Place has plans for expansion. It plans to refurbish its museum by 2009. The museum also plans to begin a new children’s museum in Huntersville, which is close to Charlotte. The new museum should be completed within the next four years.
My family and I have gone to Discovery Place several times. It was fun for the whole family. I highly recommend getting a membership for it. There are always new exhibits to see. It is a great way to spend the day.
