Beauty products you find at your local department store can be overpriced and chock-full of unrecognizable ingredients. Did you know that you can make wonderful products in the comfort of your very own kitchen and bathroom? Well, you can! And for a fraction of the cost, to boot! These recipes use salt as a main ingredient and the rest are easy to find at your local grocery store!
Acne-reducing face wash
It’s an unfortunate fact for many of us, but there are a number of things that can trigger unexpected breakouts. PMS, stress, a change in weather… The salt in this recipe reduces redness, exfoliates and also minimizes pimples and acne. The yogurt moisturizes. Here’s what you need:
¼ teaspoon Epsom Salt
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
Combine your salt and yogurt into a small bowl. Mix well until the salt is evenly disbursed throughout the yogurt. Next, apply the mixture to your face and gently massage for 2-3 minutes in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and splash your face with cold water to tighten pores. Pat dry and continue with your typical face regimen.
Refreshing Bath Soak
This is a twist on your typical bath salt and/or fizzy ball. The best part about this recipe is that it’s super easy to make, smells wonderful and it makes you glow! Before we begin, make sure you have gathered the following:
1 cup baking soda
1 cup Epsom salt
3 drops vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
In a medium to large sized bowl, combine your baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Stir well. Next, add your vanilla extract and stir quickly in order to avoid any clumping. Mix thoroughly to ensure that the ingredients are disbursed evenly.
Draw yourself a nice bath (light some candles), and add about ¼ cup of your mixture. Sit back and relax! This recipe makes plenty. You can store this for several months and it also makes great gifts!
Strawberry Banana foot scrub
It may feel strange to put squishy banana’s and strawberries on your feet, but the effects totally outweigh the weirdness of it all. While banana’s moisturize, the strawberries dissolve dead skin and the salt washes it away. Here’s what you need to prepare this scrub:
3 tablespoons Epsom Salt
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (any oil can substitute)
Once you’ve gathered everything, combine all of your ingredients into a medium sized bowl and mix well. Make sure that all of the ingredients are disbursed evenly throughout the mixture. Next, massage the concoction onto your feet for 3-5 minutes. Let it set for another 5 minutes and wash away with warm water. Pat dry and feel free to rub in some lotion to give your feet some extra loving!
