Show your Irish spirit by creating some gifts in a jar for Saint Patrick’s Day. The recipient of the gift does not need to be Irish; remember, everyone is Irish on March 17th.
Jar of IOU Cards
Fill a jar with “IOU” cards for fun items like a night at the movies, a kiss, a vacation, a day at the beach, or whatever would make someone happy. If the recipient has young children you could include IOU cards to baby-sit.
Jar O’ Love
Create a jar of love for someone special by using plain index cards to write notes about why they are special and why you love them. This jar could become a precious keepsake!
Tie the jar with green ribbon wrapped around a small bag of Hershey Kisses or other fun treat
Green Sugar Cookies
Bake green sugar cookies and put them in a jar tied with green ribbons. Add green food dye to the dough for the cookies and you will have some fun, green sugar cookies. Add a few green sprinkles on top to decorate each cookie. Sugar cookies taste great! They freeze well too so one can enjoy Irish spirit for months to come.
You may also want to include the ingredients for someone to make their own cookies in a jar. Include a recipe too. You will find great recipes by googling the phrase recipes for sugar cookies, or check out recipes at www.MarthaStewart.com.
Jar of Kisses
Give a jar of Hershey Kisses to someone special. Tie the jar with a green ribbon. On one of the ribbons attach a note that has some Irish love quotes. (use a hole punch to make a hole in the note so you can string the ribbon through it.)
Trip to New Orleans
Support New Orleans by creating a gift in a jar of some green bead necklaces and airline tickets for a vacation to New Orleans. You may want to give this gift out before March 17th and head out for vacation on that date.
I once flew to New Orleans for a business trip on March 17th. Since it was a holiday I had the luck to get a free ticket for getting bumped (I volunteered…it didn’t matter if I arrived a few hours later than expected). Also, arriving in the Big Easy on the afternoon of Saint Patrick’s Day is like stepping into a city wide party. It was a fabulous day. The weather was balmy and the city was alive with parades and music.
Jar of Flower Seeds
Either save seeds from your own garden to put in a jar or buy packets of commercial seeds to make a cute gift for Saint Patrick’s Day. This “green” gift will help the environment by feeding the birds and the bees with the flowers.
Spring is just starting to arrive in March so it is a perfect time to give a gift of seeds and get someone dreaming of summer gardens.
Jar or Basket of Green Fruits
Find a cute jar or basket, and tie a green bow on it. Then fill the basket with fruits such as Kiwi, green apples, green grapes, pears, and other green fruits.
Jar of Ingredients for Pea Soup
As winter lingers on in some regions some nice filling pea soup is a nice treat in March. So buy a bag of green peas, read the recipe on the back to figure out the other ingredients needed and put those that can go in a jar all together and then type up the recipe and attach it with a ribbon to the jar.
