It’s Christmas time once again, and who can forget one of the best parts of this time of year? No, it’s not the presents; it’s all the Christmas goodies we can buy or make to gobble down! I love all the homemade ones I or my family members make, and also the great treats that can be obtained from store shelves, whether from the in-store bakery, or not. Any way you get them, ’tis the season for Holiday treats!
Festive Christmas candies line store shelves awaiting customers to eagerly purchase them. The best candy, though has got to be the chocolate treats made in the shapes of holiday characters-such as Santas, reindeer, snowmen, and more! Great candy is sometimes received in the stockings left out for Christmas, or served as festive treats for the holidays. Any way it’s received, it’s one of the greatest holiday treats.
Another great store bought treat has to be the festive ice cream treats I find in the local supermarket. These treats are great and I especially like the snowmen treats and the mint Christmas trees. I like the snowmen because they have chocolate ice cream in them, but I can’t quite understand why I like the mint tree. I generally stay away from mint-maybe it’s the ice cream and little candies on it that make it better.
Yuletide cake can be one of the greatest treats of all! Whether store bought, homemade, or out of a cake mix box, these treats look pretty and taste oh so good to eat. A heart shaped pan turned upside down can make a great Santa cake! Great holiday scenes can be drawn on cakes with decorating tools! Regardless of all the ways a cake can be decorated for the holidays, there is but one most important function of all of them, eating them and savoring their delicious flavor.
Now, can you guess what one treat this holiday is famous for? I’ll give you a hint. When Santa arrives to drop off the presents, what treat is usually awaiting him, served with a glass of cold milk? You guessed it, cookies! I find cookies to be the highlight of this Holiday season, and what a joy they are to munch on!
Great cookies can be obtained from various locations. Department stores with limited grocery items as well as combination stores, regular grocery stores, bakeries, cookie shops, and more can come up with some good kinds of cookies to serve at holiday functions. My favorite is the package of buttery cookies with the almost quarter inch thick frosting. Some not so great cookies can be found at some of these locations if they have a poor baker or have some with tons of preservatives, so be careful what you buy! If in doubt, get cookie dough, the fresher the better.
More fantastic are completely homemade cookies. They can be suited to a person’s taste and are just wonderfully delicious! I love the various kinds that are made by my family. A recipe of ours called, “Animal Butter Cookies”, is just one of the best cookies I know! They are similar to sugar cookies but have a slight hint of lemon. They are even better topped with homemade frosting, but can be served without. Some other favorites of mine are “Peanut Blossom Cookies”, which now are served with a chocolate kiss on top instead of a chocolate star, “Holiday Fruit Cookies”, crisscrossed regular peanut butter cookies with holiday colored sugar on top, and chocolate chip cookies made with some extra holiday colored chips. I am always thrilled to gobble down these holiday delights!
So remember, whatever sweet treats you have this holiday season, enjoy them! Homemade or not, they are a great reminder of Christmastime. Enjoy them with friends, relatives, or whoever you can and make this season a reason to celebrate!
