Teething is a hard time in every baby’s life. Usually between four and six months of age a baby will begin to show teething symptoms. They’ll gum everything from a thumb to a blanket, covering it all in drool, while crying. They may pull at their ears, have diarrhea or mucous filled diapers, along with diaper rash. They’ll be irritable, have trouble eating and sleeping and of course have chapped cheeks from all that mouth made moisture. And if your baby doesn’t experience all the above symptoms of teething you can count yourself lucky, but luckier if your baby actually does this between four and six months.
A rare few babies begin to teeth at three months and earlier.
Your probably thinking how could that make teething worse? Well, you know all those wonderful gum numbing gels, and pain medications they make for teething babies? You can’t use 99% of those before four month of age. This leaves the unfortunate early teething baby without easy relief, or so you may think, Associated Content to the rescue again!
Five early baby teething safe relief alternatives:
1. Freeze a wash cloth.
Cold, refreshing, and massage textured. A plain old clean wash cloth frozen in the freezer does wonders for an early teething baby. The only issue you may have is cold hands. Some babies reject the cold rag because, well, it’s cold. You’ll likely have to hold this relief for your baby, but hey, this teething relief is entirely free, and it can’t get much better than that.
2. Homeopathic Teething Tablets.
One of the few fewer than four month old safe pain relief medications is homeopathic teething tablets such as; “Hyland’s Teething Tablets”.They are an inexpensive life saver. Made from all natural and safe ingredients these tablets dissolve quickly and work just as fast.
Companies like bright starts, and baby genius make awesome teething toys which are also developmental. What better way to relieve early baby teething pain than to let them play, learn and most importantly chew, that teething pain away.
4. A loving finger.
Another entirely free alternative is to simple pop your finger in there and rub those tiny sore baby gums. Some babies fight this at first, but once they realize it makes it feel better, your only problem may be hickeys on your fingers. You can also use a gauze pad on your finger if you like; this helps babies get used to the sensation of having their teeth cleaned. Dipping your fingers in cold water prior to rubbing is also an extra teething pain soother.
5. A cold sip.
With early teething babies you’ll need to limit this to; water, formula or expressed breast milk, but a chilled liquid will also help numb gum pain. Basically anything cold will, but if they’re going to ingest it keep in mind that at this young age babies’ digestive systems are not ready for things like juice, popsicles and other older baby foods.
A baby that begins to teeth early can be a hand full, but as you can see you and your baby are not entirely without relief. Not to mention most early teething relief options don’t cost much of anything. See there is a bright side to every sore gum. Lastly I’ll leave you with a few more teething tips.
-Try and keep your babies’ face and hands dry. Moisture can lead to rashes and chapped skin, which will be itchy, which will lead to itching and so to scratches. If nothing else keep nails clipped and apply lotion.
-Be distracting, cuddling and loving. This is a rough time in your babies’ life no matter if it came early or not. Distracting him from the pain and offering plenty of comfort is better than any relief technique.
– Pull out the bib. Your baby is going to drool, a lot. Save laundry and neck skin by putting a bib on your baby.
