Economic Stimulus Checks and Obama: What Should He Do?

by yup tab

Should President-elect Obama issue economic stimulus checks when he takes office? Yes, he should.

I can hear my conservative friends screaming at me for betraying my upbringing, but pretty much the entire nation has been hoodwinked. We have trusted in the American Dream only to find out no one has been steering the ship.

Mortgage lenders were irresponsible. Why were they? Essentially, they were profiteers. Many have been bailed out as have many banks. Still, the price being paid is from low- and middle-income families.

What big business has done is shown us it was too incompetent to carry out the Republican philosophy of “tax breaks at the top create jobs and solidify the economy.”

The Big Three automakers have had the audacity to ask for bailout money after giving top executives ridiculous amounts of money and yet, if it isn’t addressed, untold numbers of jobs are lost.

Presidnet Bush has issued one stimulus check and returned to an incompetent administration, perhaps the worst in history, and then retreated to encourage the only thing he has parroted for eight years: War.

The leaders in the Treasury Department, the administration and the major financial entities have all failed in their leadership and have resorted to “finger pointing” but they are still betrayed by circumstances; they are all guilty. Supposed “experts” say they are “puzzled.”

Perhaps nothing shows our predicament more than the Republican reaction when it was necessary to get that first bailout passed. Some politicians voted against it. Did they do that because it was a bad idea? No, they felt they had been “dissed” by the opposition party when they didn’t speak kindly of Bush’s policies. In other words, make million of Americans suffers because they were in a huff. What poor excuses for “leaders.”

All of this brings us back to the question: Should Obama issue economic stimulus checks? Or is the money better spent in bailout programs?

Are they mutually exclusive? Also, what about balancing the deficit?

I would suggest that competent government would make some inroads into that situation or at least aid in identifying the biggest problems.

Simply putting money in bailout programs is just another “trickle-down” program that Americans may or may not benefit from.

President-elect Obama should issue economic stimulus checks for two reasons. First, people need money right now, especially middle and lower-income families.

However, the main reason Obama should release the checks is to show in a direct way that he intends to change things for Americans who have been betrayed.

Initially, I didn’t support Obama and, I still struggle with a couple of his major positions but, I will say that I think he is dead serious about change and I believe he is looking for wise counsel.

Releasing the stimulus checks will give the country a much needed boost in morale.
