Using the Internet to save money is a great idea, because you can compare multiple businesses and often make purchasing decisions that save you a huge percentage of the money you may have spent originally. This is especially true of eye care. Here are four websites that can help you save hundreds of dollars on eye care, prescription glasses and contact lenses. Search for the bold text to find the sites on Google; they’re not linked in case the websites change.
1. Union Eye Care – This website offers eyecare insurance plans for as low as $15 per year. If you’ve got a family, if your prescription updates often, or if you have any other reason for needing eye care insurance, this is a good, solid way to get it inexpensively. Search for “Union Eye Care” on Google to find the website.
2. Eye Care America– This non profit website offers links to articles that can help you understand eye problems and eye diseases, excellent sources of information that can help you decide whether your eye problems merit a visit to the optometrist or optamologist’s office. This will help you save money on the eye doctor bills, which are, of course, a huge part of your eye care costs. They also offer resources to find no-cost eyecare centers for some users. Definitely worth a visit or two.
3. 1800Contacts.com – You’ve probably seen 1-800-Contacts’ ads on television. The website works quite easily, and they definitely do save their users quite a bit of money on contacts. They’ll even contact your optometrist for you, and as I’d found out, if they can’t confirm your prescription for you, they’ll just send the contacts anyways! They carry many popular brands of contacts including Acuvue and Acuvue 2.
4. Zenni Optical – I heard about this website from a friend, which seems to be how Zenni Optical does a lot of their business. Basically, the company seems to consist of a guy (or a few guys) with lens cutting equipment, and subsequently, it’s a great place to buy glasses for extremely low prices. There are hundreds of frames, many of them absolutely awesome, and many glasses are under $8. I received a flexible pair of glasses with anti-glare lenses and clip on shades for just over $30 with shipping included. It’s hard to find a better price for eyeglasses anywhere. I have heard that their customer service can be difficult to deal with, but that was not my experience.
