Family-Friendly Christmas 2008 Events in London

by yup tab

If you’re taking the family to London for a traditional Christmas celebration, you’ll be treated to several special events and performances in 2008. Christmas in London is always a magical season to take in special theatre productions, explore the royal palaces decorated for the season, and learn about the history of holiday celebrations around London’s most historical sites and attractions.

Whether you want to listen to Christmas tales from professional storytellers or see amazing Christmas light creations, here’s where you’ll find some of the best family-friendly events for Christmas 2008 in London:

Christmas Storytelling at Fortnum & Mason

Gather around the fireplace and settle in with some hot chocolate on Sunday afternoon for a storytelling event at this gourmet food marketplace. Fortnum & Mason is stocked floor to ceiling with gourmet treats from all around Europe, so you can enjoy a quick round of shopping before or after the event. The store is located at 181 Piccadilly; call +44(0)20 7734 8040 for more information.

Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park

This is an annual tradition in London that you won’t want to miss; the Winter Wonderland turns a part of Hyde Park into a magical scene with an outdoor ice rink, a giant German Christmas Market and carol concerts each night. You’ll have a chance to take in some of the best Christmas light displays in the city and enjoy some seasonal treats from the cafes and bars set up just for this event. The Winter Wonderland sticks around all the way through January 4.

Family Day at the Royal Naval College

It only happens once a year, so if you’re in London over December 14, make sure you head over to the Painted Hall in the Old Royal Naval College where you can make your own Christmas cards, take a dancing lesson and listen to the carolers. The fun takes place at the Cutty Sark Gardens in Greenwich; call +44(0)20 8269 4799 for more information.

Holiday Lights at the London Eye

London’s newest iconic landmark gets decked out to the max for the holiday season with live entertainment, Christmas lights and live commentary about the history of London on the Christmas River Cruise. Kids can enjoy the spectacular views of the city at sundown, and Mom and Dad can head here for Champagne Flights and dining services after the kids have gone to bed. Call 0870 220 2223 for more information.

Christmas Celebration at King Henry VIII’s Court

Hampton Court Palace is a sight to see year round, but Christmas calls for a little Tudor celebration on the premises. The Tudor Kitchens are busy preparing a Christmas feast for a special dinner, and the entire family can take part in activities including caroling, castle tours and holiday gift wrapping. Enjoy some live music and dance performances at dinner time and you’ll have a chance to toast to the season in true Tudor fashion. Call 0844 482 7799 for more information.
