Are you looking for something fun and family friendly to do this New Year’s Eve? Des Moines offers many options when it comes to New Year’s events for the entire family. From the annual ImaginEve! event to ice skating to sporting events, there is something for every family.
This alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration takes place at Hy-Vee Hall in the Iowa Events Center. There are plenty of activities to keep kids of all ages entertained. Some of the available activities include carnival games, a special toddler area, inflatable rides, clowns, and a sing-a-long stage, among other activities. The fun takes place on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and is concluded with a fireworks display at 8:10 pm. ImaginEve! is a free event. Drake Bulldogs Vs Missouri State
The Drake Bulldogs Men’s basketball team will be in action at the Knapp Center on New Year’s Eve. The game against Missouri State starts at 2:05pm, leaving you plenty of time to take in the game and enjoy other New Year’s Eve events in the evening. Tickets start at $5 for kids and $9 for adults. Des Moines Symphony Cirque de la Symphonie
If your family is more musically inclined, the Des Moines Symphony will host Cirque de la Symphonie on New Year’s Eve. According to the Des Moines Symphony website, the show will include contortionists, jugglers, and aerial fliers. The event begins at 8:00 pm and you can reserve your tickets now.
Jolly Holiday Lights
If you haven’t checked out the Jolly Holiday Lights display, it will still be open on New Year’s Eve. The display ends on January 1, 2009 and runs from 5:30 to 10:00 pm. It takes place at Water Works Park just off Fleur Drive. You can also visit Santa’s Wish Shop, which is open from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. The cost is $9 per car. More information is available here.
Brenton Skating Plaza
The Brenton Skating Plaza will be open on December 31 until midnight. Your family can enjoy outdoor ice skating while you welcome in the New Year.
