APS (Albuquerque Public Schools) are almost on Winter Break and your kids will want to have some fun this holiday season. There are plenty of fun activities you and your family can do together for some winter fun. Grab a notepad and a pen, write down all the activities you and your children would like to do and check off as you go.
Albuquerque Botanical Gardens:
One of the most spectacular attractions your whole family, from children to adults will really enjoy is the enormous Christmas lights display at the Albuquerque Botanical Gardens. If you commit to seeing everything displayed, you can be sure that you will be there for at least two hours, minimum! There is a lot to see and makes a perfect setting for tons of family photos, so take your digital camera! More information on the River of Lights at the ABQ Botanical Gardens can be found here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1269101/2009_river_of_lights_at_albuquerque.html?cat=2
New Mexico Rail Runner Express:
Starting December 15, 2008 the NM Rail Runner will begin transportation to Santa Fe and back! The great part is that kids 10 and under ride free and all students, with proof of id get in at a reduced price. Each way is only $1 for most riders. So pack a lunch, gather the family, and take a scenic drive up to Santa Fe for only $1. While there you can do a little shopping or have your lunch there, instead. Head home for $1 and you will have spent a few hours admiring the beauty of New Mexico from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. I imagine its going to be a real treat! More information can be found here: http://www.nmrailrunner.com/
Christmas time always brings back fond memories of attending the theater to see a play. I’ve been to many theaters during the Winter season, from Kimo, to Popejoy to Highland Theater. They all offer a variety of enticing plays that can be a nice treat for kids and their parents. This December you can catch “Miracle on 34th Street” at the Albuquerque Little Theater for $10/child. If you have the Entertainment Book, be sure to take advantage of their buy one get one free offer. Visit the ABQ Little Theater’s website for more information: http://www.albuquerquelittletheatre.org/MainStage.htm
I love the dollar movies! Where else can you see a movie on the big screen in Albuquerque for only $1 than at the Cinemark theaters? There are currently three dollar movie theaters in Albuquerque. One is located at San Mateo, near Montgomery. The second is located on Central, near Tramway. The last one is located on Coors, near Paseo Del Norte. The evening movies are $2, which is still a really great deal. They typical show movies that are in between new movies out, such as at places like Century Rio and before they hit the new release stands at Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. To see showtimes and exact price for that day/time, head to http://www.hollywood.com for showtimes and movie descriptions.
