You don’t have to go to New Orleans to have a great time at Mardi Gras. You can throw your own Mardi Gras party no matter where you are and these invitations are just the place to start planning an extraordinary party.
What you will need:
6 X 9 white envelopes
Half face craft masks
Small sealable bags (1.5 X 3 inches is a good size and can usually be found in the jewelry department of your local craft store)
Gold, purple and green glitter – look for bright or metallic colors
Gold, purple and green sequins to match the glitter
Gold, purple and green ribbon to match the glitter
Small tubes of glue (available in multipacks at your craft store)
Metallic gold, green and purple heavy paper (Check the scrapbook paper section at your local craft store)
Black permanent marker – fine point
Purple, gold and green markers – fine point
Begin by putting a tablespoon of gold glitter into a sealable bag and make sure it is sealed all the way. Do the same with each the purple and green glitter in their own separate bags.
Put a teaspoon of gold sequins into a sealable bag, and again make sure it is closed all the way. Do the same with the purple and green sequins in their own separate bags also.
Make a bag of each color for each invitation. For example if you are making 20 invitations you will need 20 bags of gold glitter, 20 bags of purple glitter and 20 bags of green glitter – the same with the sequins.
Cut two 12″ strips of ribbon from each color for each invitation.
Inside each envelope, place 1 mask, 1 bag of each color glitter, 1 bag of each color sequins, 2 strips of each color ribbon and 1 tube of glue. Set the envelopes aside to finish the rest of the invitation.
Now you will need to cut crown shapes out of the gold and purple paper. The crown you cut out of the gold paper should measure approximately 5 inches high by 7 inches wide. The crown you cut out of the purple paper should measure approximately 4.5 inches high by 6.5 inches wide.
Cut a green rectangle 4 inches high by 5 inches wide. Center the rectangle on to the purple crown and secure with glue dots. Center the purple crown onto the gold crown and secure with glue dots.
Use the black marker to write all of the information for your party in the green square. Be sure to include date, time, place, phone number and date for rsvps, and if you will be requiring costumes. Make sure to leave room to tell your guests you have provided them with materials to make a Mardi Gras mask to wear to the party. Encourage them to find other embellishments to add to the mask too.
Slip the invitation into the envelopes and address them by using the green, gold and purple markers alternating colors for each letter (and numbers) of the address.
These invitations take a little extra time to make, but they are fun and creative and a great way to start building enthusiasm for your party well
