Well so far I am personally not doing as well with keeping some of the goals I have set. I am doing a little better this year, than in some prior years.
However, I expect that I will do better as the year progresses. Because I have set a realistic set of goals, unlike I have done in other years.
Sometimes I expect too much out of myself and others which leads to many disappointments. Or at the least a lot of things not getting done in the way I would like for things to be done.
Okay so I will give you a few suggestions.
First and this is the most important suggestion I have for you is to buy a good notebook, steno style notebook is one good choice, because the page is already neatly divided for you. But any style notebook can work.
What you will do with this notebook is to write out what you need to do each day. Then if you have the steno style notebook just check off each item as completed.
This helps you to stay focused.
Second what you can do is to not plan to begin exactly on New Year’s Day, because you will likely be tired if you stayed up all night to watch the New Year come in, or whatever else. So waiting until a different day would be a better choice.
Picking a Monday is a good choice, but also if you have a favorite number up to 31 pick whichever day that number falls on the calendar.
Okay, third I would suggest that you think about what you can realistically accomplish each day, and then plan to do all you can to do what you can each day on your way to your goals.
And remember sometimes you’ll just not be able to complete everything you have set for the day, because sometimes life just gets in the way. So don’t get too worried if you are not able to get every single item on your list done.
Fourth it is a good idea to re-evaluate your goals if you find you are consistently not able to complete the things on your list. You may really have overestimated the number of hours in a day, and your own motivation.
Fifth and last I think it is a good idea to remember that mini goals completed on your way to a big goal is always a plus.
For me a clean organized house, a fit body, a completed degree, all of the debts I owe paid, a piece of land and a house of my own are goals I am working towards. Some of these goals I may be able to complete this year some will take a little longer.
For me I have a written set schedule for the major house organization and cleaning projects, for instance instead of cleaning the oven, refrigerator, and cabinets , floors and walls, I have the cabinets scheduled for one day, the refrigerator for another day, and so on. A few years ago, I would have instead of just scheduled everything for the same day, including all the other household chores. This is a bad idea by the way. I stayed frustrated and I did not get as much done as I wanted to do. I have found I am able to get more done by doing a few manageable things rather than trying to do everything in one day.
Even on the days I did happen to manage to get every single thing done I ended up exhausted for several days afterwards which mean everything I had done quickly got undone. This is a fast way to depression in case you are wondering so I suggest that you break things down to manageable levels, life will be easier, and you’ll be a whole lot less exhausted.
