Last night we sat down and formed an assembly line… for the cats. We operate a foster care based cat rescue; cats come in all the time.
Once a week, we conduct this assembly line to comb, trim nails, and inspect eyes and coat, as well as clean ears.
I reached into the bottom drawer of our car storage bin… no cotton swabs. What? How can we have been out of cotton swabs? They come in a pack of three hundred… more if you can find the five hundred pack on sale. We have not took in that many cats… have we?
Well, I found some in a glass jar in the bathroom (more for decorative purposes than practical use, but the assembly line was set….)
As we sat there working on the four new cats, we began to discuss what could have happened to all those cotton swabs. (I know… enticing conversation, eh?) Had we used them for other things? Had we simply used them all up on the cats? We came up with some interesting ways to use cotton swabs… and realized that we had been using them for other things… it was just so practical that we were blinded by the common sense of it at first.
Ways to utilize cotton swabs- cats beware
Cleaning cats’ ears is the first and foremost way to use them. A cat’s ear is different from ours, thusly; a cotton swab will not hurt or cause potential damage.
Ways to utilize cotton swabs- dust no more
Well, it would be nice if that were literally true. However, since there will always be dust, once a month I take a cotton swab dapped with lemon oil and dust the tops, the crevices, and all around all the picture frames in the home. Looking around, I can see that is took many swabs as we have many pictures. (I am not a fan of bare walls.)
Ways to utilize cotton swabs- sparkling pretty
Do you own a lot of jewelry? I do. I love puzzle rings and Celtic knotted pendants and earrings. To protect them, I have been dipping the cotton swab in silver polish and massaging into the jewelry. This gets off tarnish from the crevices as well as not scratching the metal surface.
Ways to utilize cotton swabs- type away
We also use cotton swabs to clean our computer keyboards. Dampen the cotton end with rubbing alcohol and rub in between the keys. This keeps the keyboard looking pretty and being germ free. As well as picks up any lone cat hair that had made it’s way over to the computer area.
Ways to utilize cotton swabs- pretty is as pretty does
I also use cotton swabs to apply eye shadow, correct mascara, and nail polish mishaps. Our neighbor uses them to clean and debunk her purse. Not to mention we use them as decorative fillers (see above).
What do you use them for? Just remember that maybe it is better to stock up on these inexpensive multiple use house tools…, as you never know when you might need one.
