The Charlotte Harbor Kayak and Wildlife Festival is held in Port Charlotte, Florida annually. This early April festival is still in its infancy, but creating a large following each year. This Florida festival is a must for all kayak fans. Three distinct kayak races are held during the Charlotte Harbor Kayak and Wildlife Festival. Racers can choose to participate in two and a half, two, five, or nine miles kayak races. The kayak themed fund doesn’t end when racers cross the finish line. Kayak demonstrations, catch and release fishing tournament, kayak tours, nature themed workshops, food, music, and vendor booths round out the schedule of events for this popular Florida festival.
The Charlotte Harbor Kayak and Wildlife is a fabulously free community event. The beach parking lot does have meters, which charge $.75 per hour for parking. Additional free parking can be found a little further away from the beach area. Contest fees do apply for kayak races, fishing tournaments, and guided kayak tours. Kayak race advance entry fees are typically $20 for a single race, or $35 for two races. The West Coast Florida Paddling Series Association organizes the kayak races.
Charlotte Harbor is one of the largest aquatic preserves in Florida. The Port Charlotte waterway offers 270 square miles of boat friendly Blueway Trails. While boating in Charlotte Harbor, dolphins, manatees, and native birds are nearly always sighted. Charlotte Harbor also boasts nearly 55 canoe and kayak trials, and mangrove tunnels. The trails at Charlotte Harbor are designed for both novice, and expert boaters.
Charlotte Harbor’s reputation as a world class fishing location is well known around the state. The entire area of Port Charlotte is very welcoming and offers a myriad of recreational and family friendly activities. Special side events are often planned around the annual festival. Spectacular sailing and birding events also occur during the Charlotte Harbor Kayak and Wildlife Festival.
The Port Charlotte Beach Park offers nearly 15 acres of white sandy beaches, and green spaces. A boardwalk, fishing pier, tennis courts, picnic tables, entertainment pavilion, and a swimming pool are also popular features utilized for activities during the kayak festival.
Concession stands offering snacks, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages are readily available during the Charlotte Harbor Kayak and Wildlife Festival. Local arts and crafts booths are also an integral part of the annual festival. Children’s activities are also a feature of the Charlotte Harbor Kayak and Wildlife Festival. Numerous public restrooms, RV parking, and handicap accessibility are all readily available at the Port Charlotte Beach Park.
