Purchasing Christmas and holiday gifts for co-workers can be very difficult, especially in a tight economy. You don’t need to take the week before Christmas off to avoid giving out a gift. You can instead create or purchase any of these low costs gifts.
Note paper: Cut discarded paper into neat squares the same size as a small box you can purchase at the dollar store and create a lovely note paper gift. Try to find paper with no or very little writing on one side. If they like to recycle, they will have a special fondness for this gift. Add a nice pen to the gift that you can Velcro to the side of the box.
Personalized cartoons: If you and your co-worker have inside jokes or fun senses of humor, you can make up your own personalized cartoons, and create a fun comic books they will enjoy. They to keep all of the jokes appropriate for the workplace.
Workplace favors coupons: Just like you might give your mom a coupon for a house cleaning, or your hubby a coupon for a special night, you can also give your co-workers favor coupons. You can offer to do their filing for a day or for a week. You can also give coupons for free morning cups of coffee or donuts.
Make personalized ornaments: If you are the crafty type, you can make holiday ornaments to give out to each of your co-workers. You can paint pre-made ornaments, or you can make them from dough.
Bake cookies: If you love making cookies, your co-workers will love eating them. Spend a weekend baking cookies and put them in tins or in small packages off cellophane to give out to your co-workers and boss.
Hollow book work safe: Use old leather books found at the thrift store, and cut out a square in the center of the pages. This will create a great safe place where your co-workers can put their valuables while at work. Here is a tutorial on making book safes that you can use.
Coffee mugs: Give coffee mugs to your coworkers for the holidays along with a note that reminds them that that they are saving the environment. By using a coffee mug instead of paper and Styrofoam cups they are keeping a lot of waste out of landfills. You may also want to fill that mug with candy to improve the presentation.
Coupons good for a free lunch. Give out coupons to your favorite coworkers good for redemption of a free lunch. You may want to put in the small prints that these coupons are only to be redeemed on payday and that everyone can’t redeem them on the same day. First come, first serve.
Lottery scratch off tickets: A fun gift to give to your co-workers are scratch-off tickets. You should have at least one or two small winners in a group of 25. Wrap it with a candy bar to make the people who didn’t win a bit more happy.
Funny calendar: Nothing makes a bad day at work better than a Far Side or Dilbert comedy calendar. Get a calendar that gives a new comic each day or each month depending on how much you want to spend.
Bonus: Add candy to make the gift seem more valuable.
