Frozen Vegetables Vs. Fresh Vegetables

by yup tab

When it comes to shopping, you may find it difficult to decide whether the fresh vegetables are worth buying or if you should go straight for the frozen vegetables. There are many pros and cons to both vegetable options.

Lets first take a look at the frozen vegetables. One of the benefits of the frozen vegetables is that they will last much longer. With fresh vegetables you will find that the amount of time you can keep them is very limited. Frozen vegetables can usually be stored for several months. You will also find that the nutritional value of the frozen vegetables are still pretty good with the frozen items. The downside to frozen vegetables is that it can affect some dishes, and you are losing some very important vitamins when they are frozen. Take frozen spinach for example. I have found that after you thaw them out, they don’t work the same as fresh spinach, for salads, and for some soup dishes. It will also take extra time to make. You will need to thaw it out first and then dry out the extra water. Of course you can thaw them out in the microwave, and cook them just as fast, but the taste will be considerably different. You also have to be careful that you choose frozen vegetables that do not have any added salt or sugar to them. I have found that some companies will add additional ingredients to their frozen vegetables that you don’t have on fresh vegetables.

So what about the fresh vegetables? The fresh vegetables and very tasty, and still have the crunch that you want. Although they sometimes don’t last as long as the frozen, you will get all of the nutrients and vitamins possible from the vegetables. You will find that it is also a lot easier to cook with the fresh vegetables. You just chop them up and put them where they belong. The downside with these vegetables is that the fresh vegetables don’t last very long. So if you buy a lot of vegetables you will need to make sure that you are going to use them that same week.

The key to shopping for fresh and frozen vegetables is to know what you are buying. You will need to make sure that you know how to tell that your vegetables are fresh. Take the time to learn the art of picking fresh vegetables. This will help to make sure that you get your monies worth at the store. With frozen vegetables you will need to check the label. Make sure that you are getting nothing but vegetables. You will also need to pick vegetables that offer the highest of nutrients. All of this information you will find on the label. Remember that both of these options have their pros and cons. You will just need to figure out which option works best for you and your family.
