Bath time for your baby can be a very fun and special time. You can make it even more entertaining by playing amusing games with your child as they bathe. As a mother to three children, some of my fondest memories are playing games with my children when they were babies in the bath. This article will go over three games that you can play with your baby.
Baby Bath Games #1: Going Fishing
Going fishing is a game that will delight older babies. My kids played this game often when they were babies. I got this idea from Family Fun Magazine and it quickly became a favorite. All you need is pieces of craft foam in different colors. Now cut them out in different small shapes of creatures that live in the sea. Make whales, starfish, fish, jellyfish, even Spongebob or mermaids if the mood strikes you! Next you’ll need a net to catch the fish. You can use a net that you use in a regular aquarium (bought at a pet store or at Walmart). Pour bubbles into the bathtub so they coat some of the surface of the water. Give your baby the net and let them “catch” the foam pieces you’ve put into the bathtub. Since the pieces are foam, you can stick them up on the walls by the bathtub, where they should stay while your baby takes their bath. This game is perfect for the child that may not like to stay that long in the bath.
Baby Bath Games #2: Pop the Bubbles
When my children were babies, but old enough to sit up on their own, they loved playing pop the bubbles. All you need is a bottle of bubbles. As they are playing in the bathtub, blow bubbles in the air above the water (be careful not to get any in your child’s eyes). As they try to pop the bubbles, count how many they pop in a very exaggerated voice. My children always giggled and laughed with glee as I exclaimed “You’ve POPPED one bubble!” or “Oh my goodness, you’ve popped two bubbles!” Use crayon shaped bath soap (found at stores like Walmart or buy them online) to make marks on the wall of how many bubbles your child has popped.
Baby Bath Games #3: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
Family Fun Online suggests this fun bath game for babies 9 months and up. The nice thing about Mirror, Mirror on the Wall is that besides your baby having fun in the tub, you get to wash their hair as well. Buy a non breakable mirror, specially designed for babies to play with. Set it up along the rim of the bathtub or attach it to the wall. As you shampoo your baby’s hair, sing song “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, who’s the silliest of them all?” Then shampoo their hair with baby safe shampoo and style it in the shape of a mohawk, spikes, horns, etc. Style their hair differently each time you say the phrase. This game is ideal for the child that hates having their hair washed.
