If you haven’t spent many hours watching MTV in the past few years and don’t follow the extreme sport of professional skateboarding, you probably have no idea who Ryan Sheckler is. However, I can almost guarantee your tween or teenage son or daughter does. Ryan Sheckler is a professional skateboarder who has broken out of the relative obscurity that most professional skateboarders experience outside of the fans of the sport and has begun carving a career for himself in the entertainment industry. In addition to his popular MTV show, “Life Of Ryan,” he has also begun making experiences on such popular tween shows as “Tru Jackson.” This article will offer some fun and interesting facts about the young man.
In The Beginning, Not So Long Ago. Ryan Sheckler was born in sunny California to parents Gretchen and Randy on December 30, 1989. At the tender age of only eighteen months, Ryan found his father’s skateboard in the garage and began pushing it around. He was fascinated with it and it soon became his favorite toy. When Ryan turned six, his passion for skateboarding really bloomed and he began spending an upwards of twenty hours a week advancing his skills. While many parents go through different phases with their children before they eventually find their true passion, Ryan Sheckler’s parents had a pretty good idea early on what their son’s future would entail.
A Little Help From A Skateboarding Legend. Ryan began to become serious about his sport in 1995. With the help of a ramp built by his father, he began to try new tricks and perfect the ones he already knew. He decided to take it to the next level and join the California Amateur Skateboarding League. After winning one of their contests, he was taken under the wing of Tony Hawk. Undoubtedly, Tony’s guidance and pointers proved to be a valuable asset to young Ryan Sheckler.
No More Fooling Around. Ryan became very serious about skateboarding in the late 1990’s. He began to win many championships and turned professional in the year 2003 after winning several important competitions including the famous X Games. Ryan was well on his way to becoming a forerunner in his sport and his good looks and charm soon paved the way for Hollywood to come a calling.
Acting Bug. Besides his love for skateboarding, Ryan Sheckler also enjoys appearing in front of the camera as an actor, although he frequently plays himself. He has appeared in the movies Grind and Dishdogz and allows fans to take a peek into the personal life of a professional skateboarder with his MTV reality show “Life Of Ryan.”
With youth, good looks and a determination to make everything he tries a success, the sky is the limit for Ryan Sheckler.
